Match Group Continues Investing in Automated Tools to Remove Fraudsters

Match Group for social mediaPR NEWSWIRE – To mark Internet Safety Month, today, Tinder and Match Group are highlighting Tinder's efforts to combat online fraudsters. They are investing in automated tools, including Garbo, to proactively detect and remove spam across their platforms. Tinder has implemented safety features like Photo Verification and background checks. Match Group says every minute, there are an average of 44 spam accounts removed. Additionally, ~5M bots and spam accounts have been removed between January and March of this year. Garbo first launched on Tinder in Mar of 2022 and is now available on Plenty of Fish, Match and Stir.

The AI tries to imitate users' personalities based on their answers to personality questions and their chat interactions. The goal is to provide an icebreaker for conversations and facilitate in-person meetings. The app limits AI conversations to five back-and-forth messages and prevents unsavory or overly intimate interactions. Teaser focuses on anti-ghosting and encourages users to have meaningful conversations. The app also offers a subscription option with additional features. While the concept is intriguing, some users may find the AI conversations less engaging over time. The app is still new, and user behavior may evolve.

28% of Consumers Look for Love on Dating Apps in Early 2023

Dating-apps-connected-economyPYMNTS – Spring and summer are prime dating seasons, and like other human behaviors, the pandemic has increased consumer reliance on digital tools to find that special someone. According to the PYMNTS study "ConnectedEconomy™ Monthly Report: The Love and Social Media Edition", 28% of US consumers, or ~73M people used dating apps in March. That's a 21% increase from the same month last year. 12% of men use dating apps and sites daily, versus 7.5% of women. Generation Z consumers and millennials also account for a disproportionate number of the consumers who use dating apps and sites. In total, 55% of Gen Z and 50% of millennials use some type of dating app or site. Dating apps were downloaded more than 60M times last year in the U.S., with Tinder, Bumble and Hinge representing 60% of those downloads in any given month, on average. Plenty of Fish, MeetMe, Tagged, Grindr, Badoo and Wink make up the tail end of the online dating market.
