Guys go Online to Find a ‘No-Strings Fling’ Gal

Posted on February 8, 2006

NielsennetratingscomNORTH JERSEY MEDIA GROUP — Feb 4 — If a single woman posts an online profile and is contacted by 200 guys in about a week, what are her chances of finding her soul mate? The answer is … not as good as you might expect.  According to a recent Nielsen/NetRatings survey, 30% of men are using online dating services to find a "no-strings fling" — compared with 8% of women.  42% of women are looking for a long-term relationship through online dating services, compared with 46% of men, according to the recent Nielsen/NetRatings survey.

Mark Brooks: Many women are inundated, and many guys are ignored.  eHarmony attempts to neutralise this problem with it’s slower spoonfed Q&A approach.

Love on the Web

Posted on February 6, 2006

LoveonthewebBBC NEWS — Feb 2 — There are 12 million unattached people in Britain. Since the 1960s, the number of people with no-one to go home to has quadrupled. Two thirds of single people looking for love have signed up to dating agencies. Nate Elliot, an analyst with JupiterResearch explains "the sites give people an opportunity to see a lot of other singles in an environment that's very comfortable for them. "There's not a lot of risk and there's not a lot of stress involved in browsing profiles from home." Upmarket conventional agencies are riding high too. Far from being wiped out by the web the internet's actually brought dating into people's homes and it's taken away a lot of the taboo.  Offline agencies cater to a much more select clientele.  FULL ARTICLE @ BBC NEWS

Mark Brooks: Great Expectations, Together Dating/The Right One and It's Just Lunch are the biggest national matchmaking organizations in Great Britain.

Zogo.com Answers Call for Real-time Dating Site

Posted on February 6, 2006

ZogoBOSTON HERALD — Feb 2 — Zogo, set to launch in Boston later this month, works like traditional Internet dating Web sites such as Match.com: Members create profiles and search for love mates based on such criteria as gender, location and ethnicity. But Zogo users can also access the personals on their mobile phones, invite a member to chat by sending a text message and have a real-time conversation as soon as the member accepts the invitation. If one member no longer wants to hear from a user, Zogo’s blocking feature hides his or her profile from the other’s database.  Zogo also boasts a "prowling" feature for singles out on the town.  By clicking on the "start prowling" button, Zogo users let others know what neighborhood they’re in and that they’re seeking to meet up with other like-minded singles.

Mark Brooks: Wow!  I’m going to have to try this out.
