NBC is Buying Tribe

Tribe_1VALLEYWAG — July 2 — Tribe, the social network preferred by Bay Area hippies and ravers, may be a damsel in distress but NBC is swooping down to whisk Tribe to its castle in the media sky. NBC, the broadcast network, is in the process of acquiring Tribe Networks. A letter of intent has been signed.  A team will be visiting the Tribe offices soon to go through the basic steps of due diligence.

IPG, Facebook Finalize Agreement

FacebooklogoMBP — June 29 — Agency holding company Interpublic Group has finalized an agreement with Facebook. IPG will receive prime advertising space as well as consumer research from the site. IPG will acquire less than .05 percent of Facebook as part of the deal.  IPG has committed $10 million in advertising to Facebook. In June, Student Monitor, a student market researc firm, reported that 71% of college students consider Facebook.com an "in" thing, compared with 58% for MySpace. Facebook tied for second place with beer; iPods were first.

Hackers Steal Russian Dating Site Database

I just came across this news piece from January….

MambaMOSNEWS.COM — Jan 25 — A database containing on-line correspondence of at least two million users of Russia's biggest dating service Mamba.ru was been stolen by hackers and is on sale, local media reported. Spam message advertising states that politicians, businessmen, pop stars and famous sportsmen can be found among its users. The sellers claim all the site's intimate letters can be found on the DVD they offer.
