Recession Dating

Posted on July 13, 2009

Online-love@(1) 33TV — July 13 — After a long marriage, Alexander Drake is once again dating and in this economy he chose the free site PlentyOfFish.com. "I had zero expectations, but it wasn't worth spending money if it was going to turn out to be something that didn't work for me." It seems the down economy is not hurting dating. Match January membership was up 16% over the same time last year. And from January to May eHarmony saw its registration grow 20% over the same time period last year. eHarmony did a national survey recently and found one if four unmarried men and women want a long term relationship more as a result of the current economic climate.

Why Marriage Matters

Posted on July 13, 2009

Marriage TIME MAGAZINE — July 13 — In the past 40 years, the face of the American family has changed profoundly. With frequent marriage, frequent divorce and the high number of "short-term co-habiting relationships,  there are more partners in the personal lives of Americans than in the lives of people of any other Western country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in May that births to unmarried women have reached 39.7%. Children who grow up in a household with only one biological parent are worse off on average than children who grow up in a household with both of their biological parents, regardless of the parents' race or educational background according to Sara McLanahan, a Princeton sociologist.

Online Dating Tips For Single Parents

Posted on July 13, 2009

Togetherdating logo ABOUT.COM – July 13 — "There are some sexual predators and sex offenders who use dating sites to target single parents in order to get to their kids", said Joe Tracy, Publisher of Online Dating Magazine. Paul Falzone, CEO of Together Dating, says that for most of the 40m people dating online, a disastrous 15 minutes over coffee at Starbucks is the worst they will suffer. The following online tips to single parents are recommended by Online Dating Magazine:

– Never post photos of your children in your profile
– Don’t talk about your children in your profile.
– Don’t mention what gender your children are.
– If you’re dating someone, wait several months before introducing your date to your children.
– Run a background and sex offender check

Married Dating Site Banned From Advertising On London Cabs

Posted on July 9, 2009

Illicit encounters logo BRANDREPUBLIC — July 9 – The UK Public Carriage Office, which
regulates advertising on vehicles across the UK, has banned married
dating website IllicitEncounters.co.uk from
advertising on taxi cabs in London. The site, which is a dating service
for men and women who are married, was planning a large London-wide
campaign on taxis, but the PCO deemed the ad "unsuitable". IllicitEncounters.co.uk planned
to use the tag line: "If you're happy in your marriage, tell your
spouse. If you're not, tell someone else's." AshleyMadison.com
commissioned several billboards in the US last year that featured its
slogan "Life's too short, have an affair". The billboards were attacked
by moral and religious groups and some were taken down under pressure.
Ashley Madison also launched a TV ad at the time. FULL ARTICLE @ BRAND REPUBLIC

Posted on July 9, 2009

Good morning america logo ABC NEWS — July 9 — In tough economic times, what do women expect from a potential mate? With the help of two dating services, Match.com and Premier Match, "Good Morning America" assembled a panel of eight single women to get their thoughts on dating in a recession. One woman said that man's job is "definitely a factor." "I feel that a job is an important factor," said another participant, Marissa Clarke. Clarke added that she expects the man to pay on a first date if he asked her out, and other women agreed. According to a recent survey by Match.com, of 2,700 members, 71% said they would still date someone who just lost their job. FULL ARTICLE @ ABC NEWS
