THE LOCAL – Apr 16 – Every Swede between the ages of 16- and 30-years-old uses the internet on a daily basis, a new report shows. According to figures from the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS), 99% of young Swedes make a habit of getting online every day, up from 89% a year ago. And Sweden’s over-30 crowd is by no means averse to surfing the web, 78% of the entire population report getting online at least once a day.

Singles Turning To Chicago’s ‘Millionaire Matchmaker’

Posted on April 16, 2010

Nicole paul mint experience FOX NEWS CHICAGO – Apr 15 – Nicole Paul doesn't officially call herself a "millionaire matchmaker" but other people have no problem calling her that. Paul's events cost singles anywhere between $35 and $100, and they need to get a referral (by a current customer) to get in. She's picky and exclusive, but the group of singles who have joined Mint Experience, her matchmaking service, also have high standards, Paul said. And at the end of the evening, attendees who are still too shy or unsure about asking anyone for a date, or even a phone number, can try instead to pursue the object of their desires by signing up for a future Mint Experience dinner party.

Straight People, Gay Sex

Posted on April 15, 2010

Ashleymadison logo new apr 2010 XTRA! – Apr 14 - Attached straight men and women looking for gay encounters are now very common, says Noel Biderman, founder of Ashley Madison, a hookup site designed for married folks looking to have affairs. Currently, AM boasts 200,000 attached users looking for casual same-sex hookups across Canada and the US. Biderman says AM offers discretion, something few other hookup websites provide. “The big thing between AM and other sites is your profile is honest." When people go to more traditional online dating, they usually have to lie about their relationship status, says Eric Resnick, online dating expert and coeditor of Online Personals Watch.

and it makes for interesting reading. FULL ARTICLE @ WLD BLOG

Mark Brooks: The most popular words in messages the members sent yesterday are bit, here, good, nice, lol,
hope, want, looking, chat, love, know, day, live soon. No surprises
there.

OKCupid ran an interesting study last year to find out what people were saying in there first messages. They found that mentioning specific interests got higher response rates
and mentioning the word 'zombie' got an especially high response rate.

Finding Love Online, Despite Health Problems

Posted on April 14, 2010

Prescription4love logo CNN – Apr 14 – While sites like Match.com and eHarmony don't discriminate, they also don't cater to people who are coping with sexually transmitted diseases, disabilities, or mental health conditions. "On bigger dating sites the competition is tremendous," says Jim Houran, PhD, a clinical psychologist and columnist for Online Dating Magazine. "And let's face it, depending on what the illness is, it could very well make you uncompetitive in the larger dating pool." Over the past five years, several sites such as Prescription4love.com, Nolongerlonely.com, Cisforcupid.com and DateAble have launched to serve the needs. The sites require members to disclose their illnesses upfront, clearing the air for what might be a deal-breaking revelation later. Prescription4Love has 8,000 members who represent nearly 40 health conditions. Ricky Durham founded Prescription4Love in 2006, inspired by his late brother Keith, who lived with Crohn's disease for 15 years before passing away in 2004. People with mental health problems, from chronic depression to schizophrenia, have also benefited from specialized sites. No Longer Lonely, a dating site that caters to the mentally ill, now has 16,000 members. The site has been responsible for more than 20 marriages. FULL ARTICLE @ CNN

Facebook Kills App Notifications – Minor Impact On Zoosk and SNAP

Posted on April 14, 2010

Zoosk logo newOPW – Apr 13 – Last week we reposted a post from Markus Frind's blog saying that Zoosk and AreYouInterested saw a massive drop in users after Facebook turned off the app notification last month. Apps developers had to shift to new communication channels. Facebook recommends using either counters, dashboard news notices or request access to users’ email addresses. Zoosk now uses emails and sends users to its website  instead of sending push notifications that go to their app. Alex Mehr, the CEO of Zoosk said there was "no significant impact on the overall business." They lost some traffic on Facebook but gained pretty much the same amount on zoosk.com, according to Alex. Cliff Lerner, CEO of SNAP Interactive, also confirms that their app AreYouInterested has not experienced any declines from a revenue perspective as a result of the removal of Facebook notifications. "We've experienced continued growth with our AreYouInterested.com website and extremely high engagement stats on our AreYouInterested iPhone dating app which we believe is without equal in the industry. In the final analysis we feel that removing notifs and streamlining our ability to collect emails has actually aided our business significantly because we now have a better way to email active users which is far more valuable than sending notifications on Facebook", said Cliff.
