BBC Interviewed Top Matchmakers At The Matchmaking Conference

Posted on October 26, 2010

Matchmaking conference logo BBC.CO.UK – Oct 25 – Professional matchmaking may have gone out of fashion in many countries or has it? James Gordon, BBC New York reporter, has been to the 4th Annual Professional Matchmaking Conference to see if it’s making a comeback.

James: New York City is home to millions of singles who are never really getting together unless they have help of dating sites or matchmaking. One of the organizers of the Professional Matchmaking and Date Coaching Worldwide Conference is Lisa Clampitt. Is it very difficult to meet people these days?

Lisa: The internet utilizes a lot of someone’s time and these people are not getting coached to make better decisions. What a matchmaker does is help them make better decisions for long term compatibility rather than short term chemistry.

James: Paul Falzone, you’ve been running your business for 22 years. Are those people just lazy that hey can’t bother to go out on their own to find people so they are using a service such as yourself?

Paul: It is not a question of being lazy at all. It is a question of doing some self help.

James: Some of these services mentioned prices of $25,000. It is a huge amount of cash to part with.

Paul: We charge anywhere from $2,000 to  $8,000 depending on the package and programs you get.

James: Michelle Jacoby runs DCMatchmaking in Washington and there are so many dating sites out there. Why would someone want to go to a matchmaker when they can just sign up on a dating site?

Michelle: First privacy is very important. Also I have clients who are too busy to be online going through hundreds of profiles.

Listen to the interview here.

Technology Surfaces New Aspects Of Dating

Posted on October 22, 2010

Online dating3 REFLECTOR ONLINE – Oct 21 - When you meet someone new, asking if he or she has a Facebook profile is the new "can I have your number?" With cell phones and the Internet at our fingertips, there is usually never a moment in the day we are not accessible. Is this sort of convenience really beneficial when beginning and maintaining a relationship, or are we simply too "easy" these days? It takes near-to-no effort to send a text or e-mail. This allows for people to develop relationships much more quickly and easily. To discuss a personal topic over a text can be much less awkward and easier to say things you wouldn't say face-to-face. This simplicity could be damaging to the meaningfulness of our relationships.

Divorce: Why The Big In China?

Posted on October 22, 2010

Chinese newlywed couples CNN – Oct 21 - In today's China, ~4,500 couples split up every day. More than 2.46M couples divorced in the country last year — nearly twice the number in 2001. "The rise in divorce rate is expected because China over the years has been going through drastic social and economic changes," said Xu Haoyuan, a U.S.-trained psychiatrist. The key reason was the revision in 2003 of the marriage registration regulation, making it easier to divorce. Before the change, couples seeking a divorce were required to get letters from their work units or neighborhood committees that explained and endorsed their reasons for breaking up. Those who did not want to be subjected to lectures, gossips and shame opted to stay miserably married. Under the new rules, if couples are not fighting over property rights or child custody, they can get their divorce in minutes. FULL ARTICLE @ CNN

Are You Interested Sits Atop The Facebook Dating World

Posted on October 20, 2010

Are-you-interested logo new ALL FACEBOOK – Oct 19 - SNAP Interactive, the developers behind the “Are You Interested?” app, is now the largest Facebook dating app. Last week the company announced record quarterly revenues: $1.65M, more than double the revenue of the same quarter the year prior. Granted, Zoosk.com is dramatically larger than Are You Interested’s destination site, however there’s no doubt that SNAP Interactive is showing incredible strength despite never raising money.
