Many Using Dating Services to Find True Love Online

Posted on September 5, 2011
Internet dating RICHMOND TIMES – Sep 4 - According to a 2009-10 study by Match.com and the research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey, 17% of couples that married in the previous three years met their mates through a dating site. The divorce rate for first marriages in the US is 50% so it's no wonder there are so many fish in the sea. ~120M people worldwide use Internet dating services, says Mark Brooks, editor of OnlinePersonalsWatch. Although sites such as PlentyofFish are free, many are fee-based and accounted for gross annual revenue worldwide in 2010 of $4 billion, according to Brooks. "With online dating, you have the opportunity to ask the tough questions first," he said. "You do your research, and you can communicate safely online." Not only is this an improvement over the personals, he said, it is also efficient and easy on the heart: Online dating sites "promise to help you not fall in love with the wrong person." Sites such as AreWeGoodTogether.com was designed to find out whether couples who are matched, or thinking about becoming so, are a good pairing.

Grouper: Group Dating to Get You Offline

Posted on September 5, 2011

Grouper logo YOUR TANGO – Sep 5 – Two Yale grads, Jerry Guo, 23, and Michael Waxman, 24, launched Grouper in June 2011. Grouper is an online social club (currently only in New York City) whose goal is to get you offline as quick as possible. First, you sign up for free. Once you're accepted (there's a waitlist) and matched with a compatible person, Grouper will give you a date, time and a reserved table at a hot location in the city. You bring two friends, your match brings two friends, and for $20 a head, you get your first round of drinks on the house. Unlike other dating sites, there is no physical Grouper "site," you don't have a profile, and there's no way to check out your match and his friends before you meet them in person.

Nerve.com Leaves FriendFinder and Abandons Users

Posted on September 2, 2011

NerveLogo OPW – Sep 2 – Nerve.com is no longer owned by FriendFinder and the new management has abandoned the Nerve.com userbase to FastCupid.com, a FriendFinder property. A new Nerve.com is in the works and members were sent an email saying their accounts were on FastCupid.com, but they could sign up to be notified about the new Nerve.com.

Nerve is a hallmark internet dating brand and has consistently had the best content of any idating site, and use their killer content to attract a niche audience. Namely 'smart, cultured singles.' Nerve expanded to white labeling (Spring Street Networks) and lost its way. It was acquired by FriendFinder in July 2005. Many will welcome the freeing up of Nerve.com from FriendFinder. We'll report on the developments.

There's two kinds of content on Nerve.com…

Content that makes you say 'you've got to be kidding me!'
Bonn prostitutes now required to pay ticket machine sex tax (machine made by Siemens)
Jane Fonda says she used testosterone to enhance her sex life

And content that draws you in further
True stories: My date's nationally broadcast revenge

Sex advice from (male) Hollister models

Correction: FriendFinder acquired and owned Spring Street Networks, the personals engine of Nerve.com was sold to FF, and now Nerve is spliting from using FF for personals.
