The proportion of heterosexual couples meeting through friends, for example, dropped from nearly 40% in the mid-1980s to below 30% in 2010. From the mid-1990s to 2010, the proportion of couples who’d met online rose from zero to over 20%. Homosexual couples who met online rising to 60% by 2010. GuySpy isn’t just a hook-up app. They’ve got a website has become a community of its own with 400K visitors per month. 50K new users installed the GuySpy app last month with 55% of those users in North America. The app is currently getting 2K+ downloads per day and 20K users are interacting with the app daily.

50% Of Britons Boast Online While On Holiday

HolidaysDAILYMAIL.CO.UK – June 29 – More than 50% of Britons have admitted to checking themselves in at a famous landmark but 45% of those question said they would only tag themselves in a location if it is glamorous and will make them look good. 15% of those polled admitted to boasting about their holiday online just to target an ex-partner they wanted to make jealous.

People Are 37% More Likely To Date Friends Of Friends

Coffee meets bagel logoTECH CRUNCH – June 29 – We’re more likely to choose mates who have Facebook friends in common with us. This comes according to a new study by Coffee Meets Bagel, a startup that shows users a suggestion of someone to date each day and connects them if they both fancy each other. People with mutual friends are 37.2% more likely to both give each other the thumbs up. Women are much more influenced by the mutual friends effect. For guys, being linked by the social graph isn’t too big of a deal. It only makes dudes give the go-ahead 10% more often.

Israel Is Swamped With Singles

Young-single-israeliTHE MEDIA LINE – Jun 28 – According to the statistics, in 1971 the chance of a 35-year-old woman in Israel being unmarried was 1 in 40. Today, at least one in four women of that age is unattached. The situation is the same with men. Reflecting trends in the West, Israel is also witnessing a sharp rise in the divorce rate. 35% of Israeli women between the ages of 35-49 are “seeking.” For men, 42% between the ages of 35-39 are in this category. It drops to 35% between the ages of 40-44, and to 31% for the 45-49 age bracket. Zahavi-London manages a dating site called “Shakuf B’Tzafon,” in northern Israel. She maintains that the Internet significantly widens the number of potential partners over the traditional ways of hooking up. They usually offer everything from hikes, to dance parties, bus tours, communal singing, folk dancing and bowling events.
