Snapinteractive logoPR NEWSWIRE – Aug 12 - Snap Interactive reports higher revenues (up 9% to $3.5 million over comparable 2013 period, and by 5% on a sequential basis), reduced net loss (~$260 thousand, an improvement of ~$1.2 million YOY, and $0.7 million sequentially), and positive adjusted EBITDA ( ~ $62K, an improvement of ~ $1.2 million YOY, and $0.8M sequentially) for the quarter ended June 30, 2014.

LinkedUp is a new service, not affiliated with LinkedIn, that uses the LinkedIn network to look for potential dates, while eHarmony has decided to deploy its expertise to match job seekers with potential employers. Many social networks designed for other purposes are now being mined for their dating potential turning the web into what writer James Bridle calls "a universal dating medium".

Tinder Hires Amazon’s Jerry Heinz To Lead Engineering

Tinder jerry heinzTECH CRUNCH – Aug 12 – The former head of engineering at Amazon for the AppStream product, has recently joined Tinder as VP of engineering. Heinz will lead a team of engineers at Tinder to address the speed with which Tinder serves up relevant matches, as well as handling the constant stream of new users to the network. The hire comes at a time when Tinder is under a lot of scrutiny following a sexual harassment scandal. ValleyWag reports that Benchmark is looking to invest between $50 and $75 million into Tinder at a valuation as high as $1 billion.

The company has also announced that Greg Liberman will be leaving his position of CEO, effective today. Chairman Michael McConnell will take over the role of executive chairman while Spark looks for a new CEO.

World’s First App Powered Dating Events Launch In London

After meeting, users locate each other’s Mixeo profile and select their level of interest, the following day the app generates a list of mutual matches eliminating any chance of rejection during the event. Australian Money Laundering Agency And ACCC Crack Down On Online Dating Scams

Accc logoAUSTRALIAN ASSOCIATED PRESS – Aug 11 – Following reports that 43 Australians have lost more than $100,000 each this year, with some victims sending more than $1m overseas over several years, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is joining forces with government anti-money laundering agents to implement an alert system for suspicious cross-border money transfers. Upon receiving an alert from the Australian transactions reports and analysis centre, the ACCC will contact suspected victims with warnings to stop sending money.
