TECH CRUNCH – Apr 28 – Tinder Social lets friends swipe and match with other groups they want to meet. Unfortunately, Tinder users who are being opted into this feature by default are surprised to find that it automatically displays which of their Facebook friends are also using Tinder. Tinder Social presents a list of all users' Facebook friends and lets them view their dating profiles from a very accessible interface. But Tinder is still experimenting with Tinder Social, and is only testing it with a small group of users in Australia.

Upcoming Stellar Conferences: Grow.co Mobile Apps Unlocked & iDate
OPW – Apr 28 – I'm headed to Grow.co's Mobile Apps Unlocked next week May 4-5. Looks like a stellar line up, including speakers from Tinder, Match, Zynga, Google and Fiksu. It's focused on mobile marketing and analytics. The Mobile Dating Conference is June 9-10 and is the must-attend event of the season IMHO. See you at one or both of these events perhaps.

Finding Friends Digitally Is Still Hard
FAST COMPANY – Apr 27 – Online dating is a billion-dollar industry, but swiping for new friends is still a little awkward for users and investors. There's simply a social stigma attached to it, says Nermin Jasani, the founder of the women-only friend-finding site Lumelle. The service did bring people together but the founder found it hard to get enough participation to interest potential investors. Another now-shuttered service, called "Let's At," which let users propose activities that other people could join, faced similar issues, says founder Greg Buckner. "We didn't end up getting as much traction as we hoped."
eReveal Matches People Based On Their Selfies
MARKETWIRED – Apr 27 – eReveal is a new free dating app that requires only a "selfie" to match someone with compatible dating partners. Users download eReveal and register using Facebook. Once logged in, they are asked to take a selfie, which starts the eReveal matchmaking process. eReveal's Face Pattern Analysis engine takes a few seconds to determine key personality traits, and then suggests matches (green – very compatible, yellow – average and red – not so much).

Tinder’s Competition In India
EXCHANGE FOR MEDIA – Apr 26 – Taru Kapoor is focusing on establishing Tinder in India. The 97% growth of its active user base in India over three months and 400% increase of app downloads over the last year explains Tinder's strategy to open its first international office in Delhi. Close behind is TrulyMadly; launched in 2014 whose market share is 2.5%. Another homegrown app built in 2014, Woo has 2.5M users. QuackQuack has 1.3M users. Ravi Mittal, founder, QuackQuack says, "Our focus has been more on the casual side of dating." TrulyMadly only considers Tinder as its main competition. Woo's marketing strategy focuses on social media. For QuackQuack, simple banner ads have been effective for driving good ROI till date. TrulyMadly, Woo and Tinder have also invested in events.

The Science Behind Online Dating Profiles
BBC.COM – Apr 26 – A scientist at Queen Mary University, Prof Khalid Khan, has reviewed dozens of scientific research papers on attraction and online dating. His research made clear that some profiles work better than others. He said people should spend 70% of the space writing about themselves and 30% about what they're looking for. Women are more attracted to men who demonstrate courage, bravery and a willingness to take risks. Usernames that starts with a letter higher in the alphabet do better. According to an algorithm devised by mathematicians, the chance of picking the best date is highest if user rejects the first 37%. He/she should then choose the next person that's better than all the previous ones.
