Why Women Should Make The First Move

Posted on June 30, 2016

Bumble whitney wolfe2BUSINESS INSIDER – June 30 – In a recent interview on the Girlboss Radio podcast, Whitney Wolfe discussed what motivated her to found Bumble, a dating app where only women can initiate the first move. On Match.com only ~18% of emails between straight women and straight men are initiated by women. In the most recent "Singles in America" survey, ~90% of men said they're comfortable with a woman asking them out. According to a recent OkCupid study, women who make the first move can wind up with more attractive partners than women who wait for men to ask them out. That's because women generally message men who are five points more attractive than they are, while they typically receive messages from men who are seven points less attractive.

Arizona Authorities Say 3 Missing Women Met Same Man Online

Posted on June 29, 2016

1466973987842AP – June 28 – With her Arizona home sold and most of her belongings packed up, Nancy Rae Hartz was ready to spend her golden years on the road with a man she met on a dating site. "She said, 'Don't worry, baby. We'll keep in touch,'" daughter Denise Baggs recalls. Baggs spoke to her 72-year-old mother once on the phone three days later and hasn't heard from her since. Now authorities are trying to figure out if Hartz was the victim of a serial predator. Her disappearance echoes that of two other women, one in Arizona and one in Nevada. The three women lived within ~100-mile radius of one another and were around the same age.

Interview With CEO Of POZ Dating App

Posted on June 28, 2016

POZ Andrew GoyvaertsATTITUDE.CO.UK – June 28 – Dating app POZ was created when Andrew Goyvaerts realised there were so few places that HIV positive people could meet someone to date without fear of stigma and rejection upon disclosure of their status.

Q: How did POZ come about?
A: It was launched in March but it's a concept I came up with two years ago after my bad experiences with mainstream dating apps.

Q: Is POZ solely directed at HIV positive people?
A: It is for people with HIV, but we can't stop anyone who doesn't have HIV from joining.

Q: What kind of difference do you think POZ will make for HIV-positive people who are looking to forge relationships?
A: It's putting the ball back in the court of people living with HIV. That's something I used to feel using mainstream apps: that the ball wasn't in my court, because even if the person is alright with your diagnosis, I always felt I was starting off owing that person something for accepting it. This app will also be good for people in rural areas.

Q: The app's been out for a few weeks now. What's the reaction been like?
A: There have been some concerns that it might be kind of segregating in a way. I think of it less as segregation and more as community-building.
