TMZ – Aug 21 – John Mellesmoen claims in a new lawsuit he pitched the idea of the "Super Like" to Tinder's CEO, Sean Rad, back in 2014, and says Rad loved it, promising to compensate him if the company ever used it. John says he hasn't seen a dime. But nothing's in writing. Tinder's spokesperson says this is a "baseless shakedown."

Despite the authorities’ best efforts, some Japanese men have given up on finding real love completely. Instead, they buy life-size dolls which they take on outings and consider as real companions.

Queek’d Platform Compares Dating Sites

Pokemon Go Matchmaking Events Announced In Japan
ROCKETNEWS24 – Aug 17 – ENA Ltd will be holding Pokémon Go matchmaking events around Tokyo and Kanagawa, called "Pokemon Gokon" (Gokon = Japanese word for "matchmaking event"). The first event will take place at Hibiya Park on Wednesday night. It will cost $20-$30 for men and $10-$15 for women.

Bumble Is Monetizing With Paid Features
TECH CRUNCH – Aug 16 – Starting today users will be able to pay for three new features for $9.99 per month, with discounts available if they prepay for 3 or 6 months. The three features are called Beeline (shows only users who swiped right), Rematch (keeps expired matches in users' queue) and Busybee (extends the 24-hour window so users can have another day to try to match with someone). Bumble has still refused to add any advertising to the platform.

Mark Brooks: Mobile dating apps will follow the same trajectory as Internet dating in its 1995-2005 genesis. I think we'll see a gradual shifting upwards of the mobile dating app paywalls. The mobile dating industry is getting to grips with its metrics now, and what it can afford for new member acquisition and expect for longer term ARPU. It will only get more expensive to acquire, so monetization will need to shift upwards as well.
Tinder Says GIFs And Emoji Lead To Better Connections
ENGADGET – Aug 16 – Users have sent 100M animated images since the feature launched in January. According to Tinder's research, GIF messages are 30% more likely to receive a response than non-GIF ones, and conversations with GIFs were two times longer than those without.
Canadian Blood Services Chastised For Ad On Grindr
INSTINCT MAGAZINE – Aug 14 – Canadian Blood Services says the placement of a blood donation ad on Grindr is the fault of its mobile advertising vendor. In the ad, the organization encouraged men to download its GiveBlood mobile app. But under rules that took effect Aug. 15, any gay men who have been sexually active within the last year are banned from donating blood. Health Canada reduced the ban from five years to one earlier this year.
