‘Real Conversations Of Grindr’ Reveals HIV Stigma

Posted on July 11, 2017

MASHABLE – July 10 – A new campaign called “Real Conversations of Grindr,” put together by the HIV Foundation Queensland in Australia, got people to read real-life exchanges on Grindr. It starts off with the usual titillating fare, but then descends into discrimination and hatred. “You should be ashamed, you’re a walking disease,” reads one comment. “For people living with HIV, the stigma can often be more damaging than the virus.”

eHarmony CEO Talks About Scammers And New Trends

Posted on July 11, 2017

Eharmony grant langston 2017 july cutFINANCIAL MAIL ON SUNDAY – July 10 – eHarmony was founded in 1999 and unlike many start-ups it has survived and has registered 70M people worldwide. It launched in the UK in 2009 and expects to have 5M British members by the end of this year. eHarmony remains a privately owned firm backed by some of Silicon Valley's leading private equity groups. Grant Langston is known in LA music circles as a member of the California-based rock-cum-country band Grant Langston and The Supermodels. He joined eHarmony close to the start, thinking he would work there for six months. Last year, he took over as CEO. eHarmony is no longer a site just for those in their mid-30s and 40s on second marriages, as it was before. Now 15% of those signed up are 60+ and even those in their 20s are swapping from Tinder-type hook-up apps to relationship sites such as eHarmony.

Dating Apps For People With STDs Offer A Safe Space

Posted on July 11, 2017

Hivnet screenshotVICE – July 8 – In 2001, Rick Burton launched a website called HIVNet, one of the first STD-focused dating communities on the Internet. "It was started for purely selfish reasons… I thought it would last six months or a year," he recalls. "I could meet some people and shut the thing down." Burton was first diagnosed in the 1980s, when much of America was still treating HIV and AIDS like a problem that didn't matter much because it supposedly only killed gay people. More than 15 years later, HIVNet is still going strong. Its membership is restricted to people who are actively living with the virus but it's far from the only site of its kind on the Internet. There's PositiveSingles, Hope, POZ and PozMatch. Disclosure is the most important part of dating with an STD. There is strict legislation across the U.S. that punishes the failure to disclose STD-positive status with prison time.

Happn Launches Matching Game – CrushTime

Posted on July 7, 2017

Happn crushtimeMASHABLE – July 6 – Happn is launching a new feature called CrushTime. It's an addictively simple little game that's being tested in Spain and will be rolling out globally throughout the summer. It works by showing users four different profile pictures of people they've recently been near. One of them will be a person who's already liked them, and they have to guess who it is. If users guess right and they're interested, they can connect right then. Users can't decide when they want to play this game. It just appears by chance. When it comes they have to take it.

Trump Era Sparks Interest In Muslim Matchmaking

Posted on July 7, 2017

Beyond chai logoWASHINGTON POST – July 6 – Beyond Chai is a Muslim matchmaking service run by a team of Internet-savvy young Muslim adults based in the D.C. area. The service was founded 2 years ago and saw a surge of interest after the inauguration of Trump, who said "I think Islam hates us" and proposed banning Muslims from the country while on the campaign trail. In the past six months, membership in the matchmaking service has nearly doubled.

by Julie Zauzmer
See full article at Washington Post

Mark Brooks: Check out Beyond Chai pricing. Unlike other matchmakers that require an in-person meeting and charged $5k+, they're doing consultation calls, and not meeting. They charge $100 for people to get into their database, and then there are 4 additional active-matchmaking packages from $80 to $300 a month. This is a real sweet spot, that I think we'll see more matchmaker-dating services go after. I think there's a growing portion of our paying membership bases that want more service. Why not give it to them?
