Bumble CEO: I Don’t Think About Tinder

Posted on March 12, 2018

Bumble whitney wolfe 2017 croppedCNN MONEY – Mar 11 – "I don't believe revenge is part of my agenda. I'm a firm believer that just like hate spreads hate, love and kindness spread love and kindness. We're doing our own thing," said Wolfe Herd. Last month, Tinder confirmed it will launch a setting that makes it possible for women to interact only with the men they message first. The move has long been the differentiating factor between Tinder and Bumble. Bumble expects to bring in $150M from paid subscriptions this year, Wolfe Herd said, noting that 45% of paying users are women.

Predict's founder, Ayal Belling, says he is trying to address the most common complaints about app dating. People get matches, maybe message a little but then it goes silent.

We Date Similar People Because Those Are The People Around Us

Posted on March 12, 2018

Dating similar peopleINDEPENDENT.CO.UK – Mar 10 – According to a recent study from the University of California, Davis, we consistently find ourselves dating partners with similar attributes and characteristics because these are the types of people that surround us at school, work, or home – and not because we are subconsciously seeking them out. However, online dating can add some diversity to our dating pool.

LinkedIn Stalking Is Low Key The Biggest Thing In Online Dating

Posted on March 9, 2018

Linkedin stalkingMASHABLE – Mar 9 – LinkedIn has become a valuable resource for online daters. While LinkedIn doesn't have the best in privacy protection, users can choose to remove their profile from public view, so people can't reach it via search engine. Or they can choose to hide their picture, job title, your education, etc., from people who aren't connected to them on the social network.

Snap Interactive Changes Name To PeerStream

Posted on March 9, 2018

Peerstream logoTECH CRUNCH – Mar 9 – Back in 2016 after Snapchat rebranded the company name to Snap to reflect its status as a camera company and more than just Snapchat, Snap Interactive filed a trademark infringement lawsuit to bar the change. It turns out that the lawsuit got quietly dismissed in Dec 2016 when the two settled out of court under confidential terms. And now, Snap Interactive is rebranding, to PeerStream. The company declined to say whether its rebrand was part of the settlement. Despite the lawsuit, Snap Interactive has actually benefited a bit from the mistaken identity: the company's stock shot up 164% in February last year when people mistook it for Snap around the time of the latter company's IPO.

Joan Ball Invented Online Dating

Posted on March 9, 2018

Derny stitekMASHABLE – Mar 9 – A group of men at Harvard get credit for the first computerized dating service, called 'Operation Match.' But it was actually a woman in England who first devised a way to determine compatibility using a computer. Joan Ball founded and ran the St. James Computer Dating Service, which she later re-named Com-Pat (short for "computerized compatibility). She translated survey answers about what a prospective lover did not want in a partner to punch cards, which she ran through a time-shared computer. Her program would reveal the "match" in the system, and people using the service would receive the name and address of whoever they had been paired with. She made the first match-by-computer in 1964 – a year before Operation Match at Harvard was up and running.
