Millennial Couples Don’t Rush Wedding

Posted on May 31, 2018

Wedding rings3NEW YORK TIMES – May 29 – Young adults not only marry and have children later than previous generations, they take more time to get to know each other before tying the knot. Helen Fisher, an anthropologist who studies romance and a consultant to the dating site Match.com, has come up with the phrase "fast sex, slow love" to describe the juxtaposition of casual sexual liaisons and long-simmering committed relationships. The eHarmony report on relationships found that American couples aged 25 to 34 knew each other for an average of six and a half years before marrying, compared with an average of five years for all other age groups. Both men and women now tend to want to advance their careers before settling down.

Study: Online Dating Lowers Self-esteem

Posted on May 31, 2018

Online-dating-sites_thumb[1]CNN – May 29 – Dating apps are only growing in popularity, with no sign of slowing. The stigma of finding a mate online is lessening. But rejection is real, even online. Being turned down stimulates the same part of the brain that processes physical pain, according to a 2011 study from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Basically, our brains can't tell the difference between a broken heart and a broken bone. Online dating gives users many more opportunities to feel rejected faster. 1,300 (mostly) college-age students were asked about their Tinder use, body image and self-esteem. The study found that men and women who use the app appear to have lower self-esteem than those who don't. In general, Tinder users reported less satisfaction with their bodies and looks than non-users, study author Jessica Strübel wrote.

Sex Workers Hurting Dating Sites

Posted on May 31, 2018

FOSTAJEZEBEL – May 31 – FOSTA, which was signed into law by Trump in April, broadly holds online platforms responsible for any content deemed to be related to sex trafficking. It has led to the shuttering of sites used by sex workers – and "some worry that could drive the pay-for-sex market to legitimate dating platforms." Match Group likely will be fine. They have the resources to handle legal challenges and filter out potentially problematic content. Difficulties managing the risks will be faced by smaller firms or those offering matching services as part of a bigger platform.
