Extramarital Affairs Make Some Couples Happier, Says a Study

Posted on March 6, 2019

InfidelityTNN – Mar 6 – Dr Alicia Walker from Missouri State University surveyed more than thousand users of Ashley Madison and asked them how infidelity impacted their 'life satisfaction'. Seven out of ten participants confessed that having an extramarital affair made them feel more satisfied in their marriage. Women felt more satisfied than men while having an extramarital affair.

The Meet Group Stock Has a Lot to Prove This Week

Posted on March 6, 2019

Themetgroup logoTHE MOTLEY FOOL – Mar 6 – Shares of The Meet Group have more than doubled over the past year, hitting fresh highs earlier this week. The Meet Group is facing its first big test of 2019 this week when it reports Q4 financial results today. The Meet Group stock was already rolling — up 64% in 2018 — when it announced in early January that revenue soared 30% to hit $52.3M in the Q4 that ended a week earlier. Earlier guidance was calling for just $47.8M to $48.8M on the top line. Streaming video has been a huge component of The Meet Group's growth since the latter half of 2016, but the real needle mover these days is Battles, where a pair of live-streaming users square off in everything from joke-telling to dancing. Virtual gifts dictate the winner, and that provides a juicy financial incentive for members to engage others in more Battles. By late last year, an average of 30K Battles were taking place on a typical day.

Bumble’s Women-only Networking Feature Isn’t a Job Discrimination Tool

Posted on March 5, 2019

Bumblebizz screenshotsTHE VERGE – Mar 5 – Bumble recently added a filter to its professional networking mode, Bumble Bizz, to give women the option to only match with other women. The immediate response – mainly from men's rights pages – was, "Isn't this illegal?" Bumble Bizz first launched in 2017 as a separate mode within the dating app, allowing women and men to list their resume and skills. Bumble said that Bizz was designed for "networking and mentoring, not job searching or recruiting." Bumble said that the new, opt-in, women-only filter is meant to help women "foster each others' development and ask for the time they may not be getting in the work place." Despite Bumble's intentions, it's true that the filter could be misused in ways that could be illegal and discriminatory. Women looking for other women to make professional connections with or find mentors doesn't pose a legal problem, but if employers are looking to use Bumble Bizz to hire candidates, they should be thoughtful in how they use the filter. Bumble declined to comment on legal issues around using its tool for recruitment, but said that the women-only filter was driven by the demand of women using Bumble Bizz.

Posted on March 5, 2019

Interrracial emojisMASHABLE – Mar 5 – The Unicode Consortium, the gatekeepers of all emoji, will be adding a range of people-holding-hands emoji with a mix of genders and skin colours, following Tinder's #representlove campaign. Tinder launched the #representlove campaign in February 2018 with a petition for Unicode to include interracial couples on the emoji keyboard. "Isn't it time all love was represented?" Tinder wrote in the petition, that got over 50K signatures over the course of a year.

Tinder Fueling Rise in 30somethings Unwanted Pregnancies, Says Minister

Posted on March 5, 2019

Tinder fuelling riseTELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Mar 6 – Dating apps such as Tinder are fueling a rise in unplanned pregnancies among women in their 30s, a health minister has said. Jackie Doyle-Price told a conference that technology-enabled modern dating means women start "playing the field again" far sooner after a relationship ends, meaning they manage contraception less effectively. The minister said this partly explained the fact that the growth in unplanned pregnancies is no longer among teenagers, but women in their 30s. Government figures show there were 7,929 legal abortions for under 18s in 2017, and 59,956 among women aged 30 to 39. The data indicates a rapid decline in teenage abortions over the last 10 years.

Relationships Failing Because of Social Media Usage

Posted on March 5, 2019

FightTHE UHCL SIGNAL – Mar 5 – "We are forgetting how to communicate," says Tony A. Gaskins, Jr., motivational speaker, author and life coach. "Adults are letting 'social media' ruin their relationships. Talk to your partner and stop letting inboxes, likes, and retweets ruin what you're trying to build." In this day and age, most people's lives revolve around their phones and social media. Nowadays, children and adults are spending a lot more time looking at screens and a lot less time having in-person conversations. This lack of face-to-face interaction is having a negative impact on this decade's dating world. A study by Pew Research center reports, "24% of individuals think technology has either a negative or less-than-positive impact on relationships." Another danger of social media on relationships is the tendency for personal affairs to be played out before an audience. In June 2015, a signed law called "Revenge Porn" is defined as a law that involves a person posting explicit photos of an ex or whoever without permission. The Texas law makes revenge porn a Class A misdemeanor with up to a year jail time and $4K fine.
