The Meet Group’s Podcoin Pays Users to Listen to Podcasts

Podcoin screenshotsENTREPRENEUR – May 2 – Podcoin is billed as the first app to reward podcast listeners for their time. The platform, which launched in January 2019, pays each user one "podcoin" for every 10 minutes spent listening. Users can cash out via gift cards to outlets like Amazon and Starbucks or use their earnings to make charitable donations. Over the past four months, Podcoin's usage has grown 15% week-over-week, according to CEO Geoff Cook, and reached 1M listening minutes per day.

Facebook Dating Now Available in Singapore

Fb dating secret crushTODAY ONLINE – May 2 – Facebook dating feature has been available since last year in Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and Thailand, and it was expanded this week to include 14 more countries in the South-east Asian and South American region. Besides Singapore, other countries are Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. In South America, the feature will be made available to Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Uruguay. Once a user has signed up for a profile, he or she will see suggested matches on the Facebook Dating page, which will show other users who have opted to use the service. The suggested matches will show the profiles of people who are not from the user's list of "Friends" or "Friends of Friends". However, a user may choose to view the profiles of people from his or her "Friends of Friends" list. Once a user is interested in a match, he or she may send a text message to the other person. A user is allowed to send a message to another Facebook Dating user only once, but may continue the conversation if the other party responds.

The Meet Group Launches Podcasting App Podcoin

Podcoin iconPRESS RELEASE – May 1 – The Meet Group has added Podcoin, a mobile app that rewards podcast listeners, to its portfolio of mobile apps. "Podcoin is a social podcasting app that pays its listeners," said Geoff Cook, CEO of The Meet Group. Within four months of initial launch, the app surpassed 1M daily listening minutes. Podcoin gamifies podcast listening by paying the listener one Podcoin for every ten minutes spent listening. Leaderboards show the top listeners, and listeners can follow each others' profiles. Podcoin currency can be redeemed for rewards, including gift cards, headphones, and more.

Facebook Dating Opens to Friends With Secret Crush

Facebook dating header secret crushTECH CRUNCH – May 1 – Facebook built Dating to be privacy-safe, hoping to avoid the awkwardness of friends or family checking out users' romance profile. Facebook has announced at its F8 conference that Dating is opening in 14 more countries, bringing the total to 19. It will launch in the US before the end of the year. Dating brings with it a new feature called Secret Crush. Users can choose up to 9 friends they like-like. If they've opted into Facebook Dating, they'll get a notification that some friend has a crush on them. If they add them as a Secret Crush too, they're both notified and can chat on Messenger.

Spark Networks Full Year 2018 Results

Spark networks logo dec 17PR NEWSWIRE – Apr 29 – Revenue for the second half of 2018 was €51.5M, up 18.4% from €43.5M in H2 of 2017. Revenue for 2018 was €104.6M, up 22.2% from €85.6M in 2017. The increase was primarily attributable to the Affinitas / Spark Merger, which closed in Nov 2017. Net Loss was €2M in the second half of 2018, compared to €3.9M in the second half of 2017, a reduction of €1.9M. Net Loss for 2018 was €3.1M, compared to €5.6M in 2017. Average Paying Subscribers grew 21.3% to 478K.
