Dating Apps See Matches Bloom in India

Bumble logo 2020LIVEMINT – Nov 26 – Dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble and Truly Madly are witnessing a surge of activity in India, with some clocking as much as a 140% rise in subscribers. Dating apps reach 2.2% of India's total population and are on track to reach 3.6% by 2024, market researcher Statista has estimated. Bumble said it crossed 4M in July. Both chats and video calls have increased by ~40%.

Dating App-Induced FOMO Causes Low Self-Esteem, Bad Moods – Study

Dating app generalJERUSALEM POST – Nov 26 – The fear of missing out, or FOMO, caused by using dating apps is linked to low self-esteem, a poor mood and other negative side effects, according to a new study by Dr. Riki Tesler of Ariel University. ~80% of single students use dating apps, with 25% of secular students entering an app over five times a day and 15% of religious students doing the same.

Chinese Gay Dating App Blued to Acquire Finka for $36.5M

Blued finka unionCGTN – Nov 25 – BlueCity, the parent company of Blued will acquire Finka, a leading gay social networking app in China targeting younger generations for 240M yuan ($36.5M). It's the second acquisition BlueCity has initiated since the company listed on Nasdaq in July. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions that are expected by mid-December. The company also bought LESDO, a dating app focused on China's lesbian community, in August. Finka had ~2.7M registered users in 2019. The majority of the app's users are born after 1995 and are from China's first-tier cities. The app allows users to establish social contact and share their daily life through features like matching, private message, posting moments and lifecasting. Blued now has 54M registered users.

One-third of the Latest Chinese Mobile Apps Banned by India Are Dating Apps

Banned picBUSINESS INSIDER – Nov 24 – The Indian government has banned another 43 Chinese apps from operating in India. Fifteen of these apps are dating services, including lesbian social network, Rela, AsianDate, DateMyAge, etc. The Indian government may be wary of Indian Army soldiers or officials being 'honey trapped'. Honey trapping is when agents from a foreign country pose as a pretty, young woman to seduce unsuspecting targets into inadvertently sharing confidential information.
