Has Covid Marked the End of the Casual Relationship? Fast-moving Romances Are on the Rise and Here’s Why

Posted on March 23, 2021

Dating1-300x168GLAMOUR MAGAZINE – Mar 23 – New research by Hinge has revealed ~53% of their users now feel ready for a long-term, serious relationship, with one in three singletons now feeling "more urgency" to find a partner. Dating expert Sarah Louise Ryan believes more singletons are looking to settle as they now know exactly what they want. A study by eHarmony showed 36% of people newly living with a partner believe the past two months feel equivalent to two years of commitment, with important relationship points, such as moving in together, were met far faster than before. Hinge reports that 66% of its users are feeling far more optimistic about dating in 2021, and are confident dates this year will be far better than what we had to endure in 2020.

New Chinese Dating Apps Fill the Gap Left by Tinder

Posted on March 22, 2021

Slow iconSCMP – Mar 22 – "Online dating is the future in China," said Eric Zhou, founder of Slow and former head of global operations at TikTok. Zhou's app Slow officially launched at the end of 2020, around a year after its beta version first came out. Slow only lets each user view 48 profiles a day. And instead of having users swipe, Slow asks them to "like" a particular feature on each profile. The app currently has ~100K users. HIMMR, which stands for "How I Met Mr Right", is another online dating start-up. HIMMR has attracted 80K active users and organized ~300 physical events in eight cities.

The idea for CarpeDM came from her personal frustration using existing dating apps. She couldn't find anything that spoke to her, as a Black woman. She was always encouraged by her parents to try new things when she was growing up, from sports to leadership positions, volunteerism and music. CarpeDM is an exclusive member-only dating community for professional Black women. The app provides personal matchmaking services using video. The app runs background checks on 100% of its members. Naza has raised ~$200K from friends and family.

How Whitney Wolfe Herd Turned a Vision of a Better Internet Into a Billion-Dollar Brand

Posted on March 19, 2021

Bumble whitney wolfe herd 2021 1TIME.COM – Mar 19 – Whitney Wolfe Herd is annoyed at the way her story was being told. Her success at Bumble had cast her as the Kill Bill of the tech world: a yellow-clad woman seeking vengeance after men tried to bury her. "Honestly, my ambition comes from abusive relationships," she said. "I've never had this healthy male relationship until I created it. I engineered an ecosystem of healthy male relationships in my life." Bumble has engineered 8.6B connections among tens of millions of users in 237 countries since 2014. It employs 420 "brand ambassadors" across ~100 college campuses and is planning to open Bumble-themed coffee shops after the pandemic. A month after the IPO, it's valued at ~$14B, and last year it hauled in $582M in revenue with a 26% profit margin.
