Dating-App Investors Should Play the Field
WALL STREET JOURNAL – July 13 – Match Group may always shine bright in online dating, but right now Bumble has some appeal. Match Group is up 62% over the past year, while Bumble has shed 25% since its February IPO. Bumble is now trading at just 9.4 times enterprise value to forward sales, with Match at a significant premium at 14.6 times. There is a reason Match has outperformed. It not only owns Tinder, but seven of the top 10 dating apps by consumer spending in the U.S. as of the Q1, according to Sensor Tower. Despite its mission to empower women to make the first move, a recent survey from Evercore ISI found a higher percentage of women say they are using Tinder than Bumble. It also found that of males and females using both apps, a significantly higher percentage of both groups reported being more satisfied with Tinder. Between the two, Bumble's underperformance this year leaves more room for upside. Both Evercore ISI's survey and a May survey from Morgan Stanley found 87% of respondents plan to maintain or increase their usage of dating apps over the next several months. 53% of those who don't pay currently said they would consider paying for online-dating apps in the future.

Hamdam (Farsi for 'companion') is part of the Iran's efforts to tackle declining birth rates and the rising age of marriage. Dating apps are popular in Iran, but all other platforms apart from Hamdam are illegal. Hamdan is free. Mark Brooks: Having coaching after the match, makes a lot of sense. Marriages are more likely to fall apart early on. So having some fortification early on should help couples improve their expectations and communication skills. Could Government sanctioned dating apps become more commonplace in the future?
Grindr Poses Exploitation Risk to Minors
GBH NEWS – July 12 – Since 2015, more than 100 men across the United States – including police officers, priests and teachers – have faced charges related to sexually assaulting minors or attempting sexual activity with youth they met on Grindr, according to a GBH News search of public records. More than half of sexually active gay and bisexual boys between the ages of 14 and 17 find sexual partners on Grindr and other similar apps, according to a 2018 study by Northwestern University researchers. Grindr is by far the most popular dating app among teens, the research shows. A growing number of advocates and public officials are calling for reforms to Section 230 to hold companies more accountable for dangers, including their role in sex trafficking. Cheyenne Ehrlich, owner of a company called SaferKid that works to protect children from dangers on the Internet, says lawmakers either have to amend Section 230 or require companies to impose age verification. Ehrlich has Grindr on his top list of most dangerous apps for children because of its adult content.

OneRep Review
KNOWTECHIE – OneRep is an online privacy service that protects users from the worst parts of the internet. They can set up your profile in just a couple of minutes, and then it finds and deletes their personal information on ~100 people-search sites with the push of a button. If you've never opted out of a people-search site, chances are you're currently vulnerable to identity theft, doxxing, spam, and even reputational harm. That's where OneRep comes in. Rather than opting out of these sites by hand (just to have your information pop up again), OneRep removes and keeps you off of over 100 data brokers. What's So Dangerous about Data Brokers? There's a big market for selling personal data, which explains the thousands of data brokers on the internet. These sites track down personal information and gather it into a profile that others can view or purchase. This can include phone number, occupation, salary, address, and plenty more.
