Bumble Drops Below IPO Price

Posted on November 15, 2021

Badoo logo 2018GURUFOCUS – Bumble stock dipped 19% following the release of Q3 earnings which disappointed investors because of lackluster paid subscriber additions. The company is likely to come under more pressure in the coming months. Badoo saw its revenue decline 3% to $58M in Q3, while its number of paid users dipped 9% YOY to 1.33M. The average revenue per paid user rose by 6%. Revenue from the Bumble app came to $142M for the quarter, up 39% YOY. The total number of paid users and the average revenue per user increased by 5% and 19%, respectively. Although these numbers look promising, it is worth noting that the company reported a decline in paid users from the second to third quarters, which suggests the strong momentum behind the company’s online dating products is waning.

MuddyMatches, a Dating Site That Matches Country Folk

Posted on November 15, 2021

MuddyMatches logo 2021DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Muddy Matches is full of rugged types who fix tractors and keep chickens. Apparently, membership has rocketed since the pandemic began. Co-founder Lucy Grand, 42, says it's because people reconnected with the outdoors over lockdown – then started to move out of the towns and cities. Muddy Matches had a humble start. In the pub one night, Lucy and her sister Emma, who grew up on a farm, wondered how to meet someone given that they already knew everyone in their village.

Managing AI Decision-Making Tools

Posted on November 12, 2021

AIOPW – In social and dating we generally use AI for reviewing profiles and comms for abuse, and for pairing people up. Here's an article on Harvard Business Review which defines key terms referring to key modes of AI which are useful to know. – Mark Brooks
__

Your use of AI is only going to increase. How to think about AI decisions and determine the optimal management model? These 4 management models vary based on the level and nature of the human intervention.

Human in the loop (HITL): A human is assisted by a machine. The human is doing the decision making and the machine is providing support. a.k.a. intelligence amplification (IA).

Human in the loop for exceptions (HITLFE): Most decisions are automated, and the human handles exceptions. For the exceptions, the system requires some judgment or input from the human before it can make the decision. Humans control the logic to determine which exceptions are flagged for review.

Human on the loop (HOTL): The machine is assisted by a human. The machine makes the micro-decisions, but the human reviews the decision outcomes and can adjust rules and parameters for future decisions.

Human Out of the Loop (HOOTL): The machine is monitored by the human. The machine makes every decision, and the human intervenes only by setting new constraints and objectives.
__

Mark Brooks: Seems like we use HITFLE for profile and comms review, and HOOTL for paring. What do you think?
