ADWEEK – Tinder's latest feature, Explore, allows members to swipe based on interests. That said, the dating app also wants users to manage their expectations and understand that they won't necessarily hit it off with every person they encounter. With that in mind, the brand launched a new campaign aptly titled "You're Not For Everyone."

Chinese LGBT Social Media App Ban Users From Posting Religious Content
BITTERWINTER – Gays in China are prohibited from talking about religion or expressing their religious beliefs on social networking apps that they usually use. If they try to do so, they will have their posts deleted or even their accounts blocked. Although Blued is famous for its success, it is less well-known that Blued explicitly prohibits religious content as a violation. Article 10 of the Blued Code of Conduct lists religion-related content as a "violation of Blued platform regulations," which list Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, religious associations, Buddhist studies, * churches, and other "prohibited words," and states that users who violate the regulations "will have their signatures, avatars and other information deleted."

Tinder’s CEO Talks Metaverse and Virtual Currency
REUTERS – Tinder is exploring how to blur the boundaries between offline and online worlds, said CEO Renate Nyborg at the Reuters Next conference. Asked about the company's plans around dating in the metaverse, Nyborg said: "From a Tinder perspective, we've been talking about a Tinderverse internally, which is more about blurring the boundaries between offline and online." The metaverse broadly refers to the idea of shared virtual spaces that people can access through different devices and where they can move through digital environments. These spaces may use virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR). Facebook, which recently changed its name to Meta Platforms Inc, is one of the many tech companies making bets on metaverse technologies. Bumble said during its November earnings call that it wants to prepare for "whatever emerges in the metaverse." To watch the Reuters Next conference register here.
Sharmistha Dubey Named Tech Leader of the Year at Vogue Women of The Year 2021
VOGUE – Sharmistha Dubey, CEO of Match Group, won Tech Leader of the Year at Vogue Women of The Year 2021. Dubey grew up in Jamshedpur in the 1970s and '80s, when the internet and technology as we know them both today didn't exist. Her father was a professor of mechanical engineering and he encouraged her to get an engineering degree at IIT, where she was the lone woman with hundred men. Dubey later saved up to apply for a master's degree at Ohio State University, and after stints at various technology companies, she landed at Match in 2006, as director of product for an online dating start-up called Chemistry. In 2017, Dubey raised many eyebrows at Tinder when she suggested it introduce a feature called Likes You, to show users which profiles had already liked them before they swiped left or right on them. Dubey knew that this was a feature people would pay for and cleverly offered it only on Tinder Gold. Tinder blew up in popularity nearly overnight and that feature directly fuelled its rise into the billion-dollar company that it is today. Dubey was named CEO of Match Group in early 2020.
