Elon Musk Wants to ‘Authenticate All Real Humans’ on Twitter

Posted on April 29, 2022

Twitter blue tickCNN – Elon Musk’s Twitter feed states that he will “authenticate all real humans.” Musk could seek to require real names on accounts or require photo id, or integration with 3rd-party services where users are already known. His pet peeve is spam accounts.

Facebook made changes to its names policy in 2015 after critics pointed out that abuse victims and other vulnerable groups had good reasons to use pseudonyms. Users can provide reasons to the company why they avoid using their real names.

Mark Brooks: Behavior changes considerably when people are anonymous. Dating platforms really need to know and assure that real humans are behind each profile, and are ‘good actors.’ No small task, but at least the ability to check liveness and verify someone is the same person as in their photo is easy with FaceTec. We also have the purpose-built RealMe which provides the ability to verify someone is real, and the state of their reputation and priors. (Full Disclosure: FaceTec and RealMe are clients of Courtland Brooks)

Is Meta Platforms About to Acquire Match Group?

Posted on April 26, 2022

Match-Group-logo 2021INVESTORPLACE – Rumors heat up that Meta is looking to acquire Match. MTCH stock is up more than 6% today as a result. Current reports guess that Meta or Twitter could each be pursuing Match. However, given today's news that Twitter is accepting Elon Musk's offer to acquire the company and take it private, at the moment it's unclear if the rumors over Match will prove to be anything more. Investors and activists may well be waiting for its fiscal first-quarter earnings call next week to take any definitive steps.

Is It Time to Try Speed Dating?

Posted on April 26, 2022

Ambyr ClubNEW YORK TIMES – Ambyr Club is a new speed dating service that launched last December and has since hosted seven events at trendy bars in Manhattan. "What's old is new again," said Julie Spira, a dating coach who runs a company called Cyber-Dating Expert. She noted that the first documented speed dating event was held at a coffee shop in Beverly Hills in 1998. Using data from a speed dating company called HurryDate, a 2005 University of Pennsylvania study found that most people gauge attraction within three seconds of meeting. Maxine Williams founded We Met IRL, a speed dating company for people of color, in January. "I came up with the idea in December after attending a speed dating event in Manhattan that wasn't very diverse," she said. CWAQ, which stands for "connect with a qutie," was also inspired by disappointment. Kevin Rabinovich, a freelance event producer, was let down by the lack of structure and diversity at such events.
