The Gay Man’s Search For Sex And Love Online

Posted on April 18, 2008

K_clanku_z_gay_wired GAY WIRED — Apr 17 — According to the latest research from the LOGO Channel, 48% of gay men are looking for "love" on line. In the gay world, looks and hookups often seem much more important than actual compatibility. Manhunt.net may be known to most as an online bathhouse, but it still markets itself as a dating service. Adam4Adam.com, is a little less overt about being a hook up site. They allow members to write a profile about likes and dislikes and post pictures that leave very little to the imagination. Love can be found on the Web, to be sure… but as these Websites show, sometimes, gay men seem to be going for the easy out.

Mark Brooks: Say, don't forget myPartner.com! myPartner is more serious and long term focused. (Disclosure: myPartner is a client of Courtland Brooks)

Online Sex: My Space Or Yours?

Posted on April 8, 2008

Edge_story EDGE BOSTON — Apr 7 — Online venues, from IRC to AOL to Gay.com to MySpace and video chats, all seem to have replaced the function of the gay bar as a way for gay men to connect with other gay men. "Gay daters were some of the earliest, if not the first, to utilize the web for meeting potential partners. In the initial days of on online dating, users searched for profiles that looked interesting and eligible to them, whether that be for a relationship of a short-term encounter", said Patrick H. Perrine, MA, CEO and Founder of myPartner.com, who has worked in the field of human sexuality since 1997. FULL ARTICLE @ EDGE BOSTON

Manhunt.net Is Playing It Safe

Posted on April 3, 2008

Manhunt_logo BAY WINDOWS — Apr 3 — Since its launch 7 years ago Manhunt became one of the largest gay websites in the US. In the last few years it has gone international. Manhunt currently operates in more than 100 countries, and there are 1.3 million subscribers worldwide. Manhunt has been targeted by those claiming that Internet cruising puts gay men at higher risk of HIV transmission. Massachusetts Department of Public Health's (DPH) may be the first health department to partner with Manhunt. "Manhunt really shows leadership in the industry from recognizing that they had a role in supporting the public health and individual health of their members," said Kevin Cranston, who heads the (DPH) HIV/AIDS Bureau. "People are going to do what they're going to do. I'm not encouraging them to be unsafe. In fact I'm doing what I can do to help them be safe", said Jonathan Crutchley, Manhunt co-founder. This June Manhunt will also launch a new venture, OnTheHunt.com, the company's first porn site.

Gay Matchmaking Sites Find A Growing Market

Posted on February 14, 2008

Mypartner SF CHRONICLE — Feb 14 — After eHarmony said its psychological research is based exclusively on heterosexual relationships, a growing number of rival online matchmakers are using their algorithms to find same-sex love as well. "There are just not enough services for creating healthy relationships, and it is a major gap in the gay community," said matchmaker Patrick Perrine, founder MyPartner.com, which caters to "sophisticated, cultured and relationship-oriented gay men. "There has been a long-held stereotype that gay people are only looking to hook up." Matchmakers like Chemistry.com, which estimates that about 10% of its 3.7 million clients are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, say all love is equal, straight or gay. The matchmakers claim "you can actually find people who are compatible, and this is a major advance that is going to keep the industry alive for the upcoming 50 years," said Mark Brooks, an Internet dating and social networking consultant. Manhunt.net Wins More Awards Than They Can Carry

Posted on February 8, 2008

Manhunt_logo
OPW — Feb 8 — Manhunt.net, the
word’s largest all male dating site, has just won the Cybersocket Web
award for Best Adult Hook Up Site, The Weho Award for Outstanding Adult
Website, and the highly respected Netizen award for Manhunt and
Jonathan Crutchley from the Free Speech Coalition. The Cybersocket
award, which weighed a whopping 20 lbs, was in the Surfer’s choice
category, naming them as the people’s favorite online hook up
destination. WeHo went one step farther, (and another 20 lb trophy)
naming them the best overall Adult Website. But, it was the Free Speech
Coalition that highlighted Manhunt’s mission to give back to the
industry and the community by awarding Manhunt and Jonathan Crutchley
with the Netizen Award, given to the company and individual who has
done the most and been the best citizen for the industry through the
internet.

Mark Brooks: Manhunt.net
is growing gangbusters and is now the category leader for gay dating
sites. They charge $12 a month. Here’s how they stack up against Gay.com and Adam4Adam on Alexa. (Full Disclosure: Manhunt is a client of Courtland Brooks).

Gay Love Online, And This Time They Mean Business

Posted on January 23, 2008

Patrickperrine GFN — Jan 22 — E-Harmony's discrimination towards gay clients, has led entrepreneurs to rethink services specifically for gay singles. Patrick H. Perrine MA, PhD is the founder and matchmaker behind myPartner.com. GFN spoke to Dr. Perrine about how he went from relationship counselor to online cupid.

GFN: Why enter into the competitive Internet dating world?
Patrick Perrine: I realized there was a major underserved market of gay and lesbians singles. Nobody was providing a place with the right tools and resources to create positive relationships.

GFN: What did you learn from sites like Gay.com to make myPartner different?
PP: We did a tough competitive analysis, and we took our initial user feedback very seriously. Match.com is incredibly successful because they are constantly changing. That was a big model for us.

GFN: Where did you get the financing to develop the site?
PP: I used my personal resources to develop the company. Recently, I did take on some angel investors.

GFN: What is your advertising/marketing plan?
PP: We get a lot of traffic from organic search. October 1st was the start of our major online advertising campaign.

GFN: Do you eventually want to address lesbians?
PP: It may be something we tackle in the future.

Are Gay Relationships Different?

Posted on January 22, 2008

Gay_men_holding_hands
TIME — Jan 17 — Many people, gay and straight, assume gay men are worse at maintaining
relationships than straight people are. The psychologists found that when gay men initiate
difficult discussions with their partners, the partners are worse than
straight or lesbian couples at "repairing"–essentially, making up. That’s one reason gays and lesbians end relationships sooner
than heterosexuals. In a 2004 paper, psychology professor Lawrence
Kurdek of Wright State University in Ohio reported that over a 12-year
period, 21% of gay and lesbian couples broke up; only 14% of married
straight couples did. Legalizing same-sex marriage would probably help prolong gay
relationships. For gays, breaking up usually means simply moving
out, not hiring divorce attorneys. FULL ARTICLE @ TIME
