MEDIA POST — Feb 19 — France has the highest proportion of Internet users visiting online personals sites. ComScore Networks recently reported that 22% of French Internet users, age 15+, visited online personals sites in December 2006, followed by the British with 20%, and the Americans with 13%. Interestingly, usage of dating sites seems to peak in the summer months in each country; July in the U.K. and U.S. and September in France.

Gaydar Founder Dies in Mystery Fall
THE INDEPENDENT — Feb 13 — One of Britain's leading gay businessmen, the co-founder of Gaydar, has been found dead, after apparently falling eight floors from his penthouse. Scotland Yard said the death of Gary Frisch, 38, on Saturday was "unexplained" and were investigating to see whether it was an accident or suicide. There is no immediate suggestion of suspicious circumstances. A South African by birth, Mr Frisch and his then personal partner, Henry Badenhorst, 37, founded Gaydar in 1999, two years after they moved to Britain. Gaydar is believed to be earning £1m+ a year and has more than four million subscribers.

NETIMPERATIVE — Nov 30 — Social networking websites are used by nearly a quarter of Europeans at least once a month, according to a new consumer survey (7,036 participants). The 2006 Mediascope research from the EIAA reveals that social networking is driving internet growth. 72% of Europeans spend the majority of their time online for personal reasons. 45% of internet users in Europe now go online every day of the week. The average European internet user spends 11 hours 20 minutes a week online compared to 10 hours 15 minutes a week in 2005 and is online 5.4 days a week on average. Social networking sites are visited at least once a month by 23% of online Europeans. 32% of 16-24 year old internet users visit social networking sites at least once a month. 31% of European online users download music at least once a month. 15% conduct telephone calls via the internet, up 50% from last year. Spain and Germany lead in the use of online forums with 36% and 31% respectively interacting with those sites at least once a month. Sweden is leading the European internet radio trend with 43% of online users tuning in at least once a month, followed closely by the Spanish and French markets. 25% of internet users in France engage with the blogosphere at least once a month. 85% of online consumers in the UK, France, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark use broadband.

PARSHIP’s Love Index Reveals the Side Effects of Falling in Love
SOURCE WIRE — Nov 17 — It's official; British men fall in love faster than woman and they are more likely to suffer adverse physical side effects as a result, a new study has found. Dizziness, rashes and stomach aches were just some of the symptoms experienced by over 5000 people across Europe studied by online dating specialist PARSHIP – part of their European Love index. PARSHIP (2 million active members) is Europe's serious relationship dating service.
