Divorce: Why The Big In China?
CNN – Oct 21 - In today's China, ~4,500 couples split up every day. More than 2.46M couples divorced in the country last year — nearly twice the number in 2001. "The rise in divorce rate is expected because China over the years has been going through drastic social and economic changes," said Xu Haoyuan, a U.S.-trained psychiatrist. The key reason was the revision in 2003 of the marriage registration regulation, making it easier to divorce. Before the change, couples seeking a divorce were required to get letters from their work units or neighborhood committees that explained and endorsed their reasons for breaking up. Those who did not want to be subjected to lectures, gossips and shame opted to stay miserably married. Under the new rules, if couples are not fighting over property rights or child custody, they can get their divorce in minutes. FULL ARTICLE @ CNN

Having realized a major opportunity in online dating services, he decided to invest. Ersan came up with the city-based local dating model. Partnering with local EBay affiliate gittigidiyor.com founders, they started acquiring city domains from global registrants. In late 2005, city-based Dating network was launched in top 3 cities under ‘Magnet’ name: istanbul.net, ankara.net and izmir.net. The system enabled users to find dating partners in their districts and neighborhoods. Magnet currently leads the market with an estimated 1M active users and over 5M subscribers. Tech Will Transform Online Dating Market In China
GLOBAL TIMES – Sep 24 – The Western world has almost reached the saturation point for online dating. Chinese online dating is a bit different. The key problem here is technology. Most of the current sites simply do not use the features and technological innovation of Western dating sites. China is seen as scam-central, and so many payments from users get blocked. China still doesn't have the infrastructure to allow secure online UnionPay card payments. Launching an app is even harder. Once some of these technology problems are sorted, particularly if the large dating sites invest in them, then everything will change. This is why technology is the future of online dating in China.
