Facebook Dating Now Available in Singapore

Fb dating secret crushTODAY ONLINE – May 2 – Facebook dating feature has been available since last year in Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and Thailand, and it was expanded this week to include 14 more countries in the South-east Asian and South American region. Besides Singapore, other countries are Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam. In South America, the feature will be made available to Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Uruguay. Once a user has signed up for a profile, he or she will see suggested matches on the Facebook Dating page, which will show other users who have opted to use the service. The suggested matches will show the profiles of people who are not from the user's list of "Friends" or "Friends of Friends". However, a user may choose to view the profiles of people from his or her "Friends of Friends" list. Once a user is interested in a match, he or she may send a text message to the other person. A user is allowed to send a message to another Facebook Dating user only once, but may continue the conversation if the other party responds.

Dating App Tantan Removed From Android App Stores

Tantan logo 2017TECHNODE – Apr 29 – Chinese dating app Tantan has been taken down from major Android app stores. As of Monday morning it was still available on Apple's App Store as well as on smartphone brand Xiaomi's Mi Store. Tantan stated that the takedown was due to "violations," and that the company would work to rectify the issues. In February 2018, Tantan was acquired by its larger competitor Momo in a $600M buyout.

Scammers Use Dating Apps to Fleece Millions From Aussie Women

Scam picCANSTAR – Apr 29 – ~118K Aussies were swindled out of $107M in 2018, marking a new record in the amount of financial loss reported to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) Scamwatch website and phone helpline in one year. It is also an 18% increase over the $90.9M in financial loss Scamwatch reported in 2017. Dating and romance scams were the second most financially damaging with losses of $24.6M. Women reported losing most to dating and romance scams with $19.5M in losses, while men were most affected by investment scams, reporting losses of $29.1M.

Mixing Chatroulette With Tinder – the Future of Online Dating?

China's biggest Internet dating site Jiayuan first started offering video streaming in January. First, a user would start a streaming session with a set topic, then wait for a second user to join. Then if someone wanted to talk to that host, they would request to join. If the request was accepted, then the two could video chat. That conversation would then broadcast live for other users to watch and comment. There were a lot of empty rooms. So the company added third party emcees to serve as matchmaker hosts. It also created a karaoke feature. Since then, two other major dating platforms – Baihehunlian and Zhenai – also added livestream features. Americans have been swiping left and right for more than five years now and are collectively ready for a different online dating experience.

Trademark Row: Matrimony.com Claims Interim Order

Matrimony logo on the wallTHE NEW INDIAN EXPRESS – Apr 23 – Indian matchmaking company Matrimony.com has obtained an interim injunction from the Madras High Court against Kalyan Matrimony, owned by Kalyan Jewellers, for infringement of its trademarks Tamil Matrimony, Telugu Matrimony, Kerala Matrimony and Kannada Matrimony through the Google Adwords Programme and in SEO. "We are pursuing legal action against those who deceptively use names similar to our trademarks and attempt to ride the goodwill and the reputation of our long-standing brands, on which we have invested heavily over the past two decades," said S. Ravichandran, GM (Legal & Regulatory) at Matrimony.com.

Momo: A Great Tech Stock No One Is Talking About

And the U.S. and China have not exactly had the closest friendship over the years. Fraudulent Chinese stocks have also been an ongoing concern. With a market cap of $7.6B, Momo is not exactly a tiny company operating in a shady business. It's a leading mobile social networking app and deserves much more attention than it receives from the average investor. The company's monthly active users (MAUs) reached 113.3M in December 2018, up from the 99.1M YOY. Momo stock is up 71.5% year-to-date.

25% Of Adults Under 40 in Japan Are Still Virgins

JapanINSIDER – Apr 9 – The number of women and men aged 18 to 39 years old who had never had heterosexual sex increased from 21.7% and 20% to 24.6% and 25.8% respectively between 1992 and 2015, which is an increase of ~5% in 23 years. Compared to other countries, the rates of people with no heterosexual experience are 1-5% of people in their 30s in the UK, US, and Australia. There are more and more old people in Japan, and women aren't having enough children to maintain the population. This has led some to refer to the country as a "demographic time bomb". People in their 30s who still live with their parents are known as "parasitic singles," and some are turning to cartoons for companionship.
