Dating Sites: A Magnet For Hackers?
ITPRO.CO.UK – May 9 – The Ashley Madison attack in July 2015 revealed the sensitive data of 37M people. Adult Friend Finder was also hacked, with the personal details of 4M users leaked, including their IP addresses and dates of birth. More recently, BeautifulPeople also had their details leaked online. "Dating sites contain a very high level of personal information, which can be very valuable in the wrong hands and quite damaging for those involved," said Rob Norris, director of enterprise and cybersecurity for EMEIA at Fujitsu. Are dating sites targeted more frequently than other sites? According to David Emm, principal security researcher as Kaspersky Lab, the answer is not necessarily. "Dating sites certainly draw a lot of media interest," said Emm. "Hacks happen to other sites but is a less newsworthy story."

Beautiful People Dating Site Data Sold
BBC NEWS – Apr 26 – The details of ~9M members including their weight, height, job, and phone numbers were discovered unencrypted online in Dec 2015. They have now been sold on the black market. Beautiful People originally claimed the content was from a test server but Mr Vickery said the data itself was still genuine.

BeautifulPeople.com Leaks Private Data Of Its 1.1M Users
FORBES – Apr 25 – Sexual preference, relationship status, income, address – these are some of the details applicants for the controversial dating site BeautifulPeople.com are asked to supply before they are judged by the existing user base, who vote on who is allowed in. Thanks to the leak, all of this info is now public. The leak also included 15M private messages between users. The data is now being sold by traders.

Elitist Dating Site Is Hijacked By Internet Trolls
DAILYMAIL.CO.UK – Mar 12 – Last week it was revealed that BeautifulPeople.com had expelled ~3K people for not maintaining the appearance necessary to meet the high standards expected on the site. The move angered outsiders who disagreed with the site's selective policy. The 'Ugly' troll attack originated in Russia where ~2,700 applications were made to the site in a few hours. Over half of these were fake profiles and part of the ugly troll army.

Beautifulpeople.com Created A Mentoring Program – “Adopt An Ugly Person”
CNBC – Mar 1 – 9 out of 10 applicants to BeautifulPeople.com are turned down. So the site has introduced a mentoring software called "Adopt an Unattractive Person." In the new system, BeautifulPeople customers ranging from stylists to therapists volunteer to mentor candidates on how to be extra, properly, attractive. Mentoring is presently free, but might be monetized in the future.

People Rejected From BeautifulPeople.com Come Back After Plastic Surgery
ABC NEWS – Feb 7 – On BeautifulPeople.com, new users are allowed to upload one photo. If the photo doesn’t get enough votes from the site's members in the first 48 hours, the user is kicked off. Some people who were rejected from the site decided to get work done, and then returned to the site. Sal Vance said he spent $10K on his teeth before signing up. BeautifulPeople.com launched in Denmark in 2003, and has since gone global with 800K members. The acceptance rate is ~30%.
