FOX43 – Bindr, the bisexual dating app, launched in August 2022. CEO and Co-founder, Mary Richardson, says the app was developed after noticing a lack of queer representation on other dating platforms. After receiving funding through the Penn State LaunchBox program, Richardson and her co-founder developed the app, a statewide initiative to spur economic development, job creation, and student career success. Less than two years later, the app has gone worldwide. The app broke its 100,000-user milestone earlier this year and averages ~1K new users daily. The company expects to reach 1M users by next summer. In 2023, Richardson won an award for Women in Technology from the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania and was nominated for Forbes 30 Under 30.

The app, which has garnered 100K users, was recently accepted into Innovation Works' AlphaLab 2024 accelerator. Bindr allows users to interact without labeling themselves and incorporates social features like a grid view and timeline. After securing initial funding through pitch competitions, the co-founders are now seeking a $1.5M seed round, with a recent $100K infusion from AlphaLab.

PSU.EDU – Mary Richardson, a student at Penn State York, collaborated with Brandon Teller to launch Bindr, a dating app prioritizing inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community. Driven by personal experiences of discrimination on other platforms, Richardson envisioned a "label-free" app. In just a year, Bindr amassed ~25K users, aided by resources like York LaunchBox. The duo have won multiple pitch competitions, securing funds for Bindr's development. Richardson has been nominated for the 2023 Women in Technology Award. The success of Bindr is partly attributed to the support from Penn State York and its various resources.
