Coffee Meets Bagel Introduces New Video Feature

Posted on November 9, 2017

Coffeemeetsbagel video featureTECH CRUNCH – Nov 8 – Every day, Coffee Meets Bagel will ask users to answer a 'question of the day' within a brand new video section. Users record up to 8s of video answering the question. Once they answer the question, they will be able to browse the video section for other users in their area who have answered the question, and if they like what they see, they can match with them. Every 24 hours, the video section is wiped clean to make room for a new question, which lowers the stakes on answering the questions via video in the first place. It's unclear whether or not the video section will become a paid feature, but for now it is free.

Q&A With CoffeeMeetsBagel Co-Founder Dawoon Kang

Posted on February 14, 2017

CoffeeMeetsBagel-Kang-sistersFORBES – Feb 14 – Dawoon Kang and her two sisters grew up in an entrepreneurial family.

Q: What was the inspiration for starting Coffee Meets Bagel?
A: We noticed that dating was a big pain point for a lot of our friends, especially women. We started paying attention to the dating industry and realized there were no dating services that understood women.

Q: What's the biggest challenge you've faced in your startup journey?
A: This is a job where challenges never end. First was starting a tech company with no tech background. Second was getting someone to join an all-sister, first-time entrepreneur team.

Q: What's it like working with 3 sisters who are all cofounders?
A: I feel so lucky to have partners I can fully trust, respect, and share anything with.

Q: You have raised $11.2M in venture funding. What advice can you offer female founders on raising capital?
A: Be smart and selective about who you pitch to. Be persistent. Don't be disappointed or take it personally just because they don't agree with your thesis – move on and find someone who does. Take their advice with grain of salt and use it as a way to hone your next pitch.

Q: What are the next steps for your business?
A: Serving international markets.

What Is It Like To Date While Blind?

Posted on January 9, 2017

Visually impaired picWASHINGTON POST – Jan 9 – Jolliff, 29, has been blind since birth due to what's known as Leber Congenital Amaurosis. She can distinguish lights from darks, and her seeing-eye dog helps her navigate the world. Yet her dog can't help her swipe right or left on Tinder. So she seeks romance elsewhere. Last fall, Jolliff signed up for eHarmony and OkCupid. "I want the 'deeper' connection. I like being able to see how much effort a guy is willing to put into crafting his profile." Both Tinder and Coffee Meets Bagel, two popular dating apps, have done little to accommodate the blind or visually impaired community. Tinder's VP of global communications branding, Rosette Pambakian, declined to comment, saying she didn't think it "makes sense" to include Tinder in a story about visually impaired daters. Dawoon Kang, COO of Coffee Meets Bagel, said she hadn't given blind or visual impairments much consideration. But she's open to it.

Mark Brooks: This Washington Post reporter appears to have not appreciated Tinder's refusal to comment. Granted, its not the easiest question to handle. This is where the help of a trusted intermediary can come in handy. When I handle press calls for my clients I act as an analyst, and am quoted as such. The press trust me to guide them to the right spokespeople, and to guide them on the 'fit' of their subject matter. Please see CourtlandBrooks.com.

Tinder’s Competitors Are Banking On Its Sleazy Image

Posted on November 7, 2016

Tinder hateBUSINESS INSIDER – Nov 5 – When Tinder launched in 2012, every match felt like an adrenaline rush. But those matches are no longer quite as exciting. A 2016 study looked at the user reviews of 97 dating apps and analyzed how their quality scores have changed over the past year. Tinder experienced the largest YOY decline. In a 2016 survey by Consumers' Research, 13% of Tinder users reported relationships lasting longer than one month. Its photo-based interface probably contributed to its hookup image. Apps like Bumble, Hinge, Happn, Coffee Meets Bagel, Siren, Her are not heavily photo-based. Bumble has a similar interface as Tinder, but doesn't have the reputation of being a hookup app. That's because only women can message their matches first on Bumble. Men seem to like the app because women seem to take more initiative in starting a conversation. Siren, which launched in late 2015, abandons the swipe interface entirely. It features a daily question and a feed that displays users' answers.

Coffee Meets Bagel Will Send Users More Matches A Day

Posted on July 20, 2016

Coffeemeetsbagel ladies choiceTECH CRUNCH – July 19 – Dating app Coffee Meets Bagel is making some big changes, rolling out a "ladies choice" update in the coming days. Instead of one-a-day match suggestion, CMB will give its members more options. Men will have 21 potential matches each day, because CMB research showed that men preferred to look through profiles of lots of ladies. And then women will receive a curated group of five men who already said yes.

Dating Apps With Highest % Of Women

Posted on June 4, 2016

BUSINESS INSIDER – Jun 3 – SurveyMonkey Intelligence looked at the numbers to see which dating apps have the highest proportion of women. Christian Mingle scored the top spot, with women-friendly apps like Coffee Meets Bagel and Bumble also scoring high. Tinder and Happn ranked lower, while, unsurprisingly, gay app Grindr fell in last place.

Survey monkey graph 1They also looked at what % users engage with an app on a daily basis. The results were, in many cases, completely flipped (Grindr and Happn were on top). Men are much more "engaged."
