PlentyofFish Kills eVow.com

Posted on May 13, 2015

Evow logoOPW – May 13 – POF has pulled the plug on its property eVow.  The eVow website was developed as a direct competitor to eHarmony in September 2010. But POF is sticking to its knitting and focusing on growing its core offering, their mobile apps and POF.com. According to WayBackMachine, the last recorded date that eVow was live was March 25th. So eHarmony has one less competitor to think about. I hear eHarmony is in growth mode and doing very well now. Chemistry and PerfectMatch are becoming less of a concern for them as well. I still think we're leaving money on the table. Serious singles want more service, are willing to pay for it, but we're just not delivering. I hope to learn more about how Zhenai and Baihe are outperforming the Western markets in this respect, at iDate Beijing.

Evow app screenshotDATING SITE SAVVY – Dec 3 – eVow have recently released dating Apps for Android and iPhone. It’s refreshingly different from it’s parent companies App POF. Over 5K people had downloaded the Android App in the past month, compared to ~1M downloads for the POF. Downloads are quickly rising though.

Jazzed (eHarmony) And eVow (PlentyOfFish)

Posted on September 14, 2010
Jazzed evow loga ONLINE DATING SOUND BARRIER – Sep 13 – eHarmony has launched Jazzed, a free online dating site designed to compete with PlentyOfFish and OKCupid, and now PlentyOfFish is launching eVow, a Search Engine intended to be a paid online dating site. Free/freemium dating sites are good to send prospective customers to paid dating sites like Chemistry and eHarmony. When users get tired of free sites, they migrate to a paid one; or they use free sites for flirting and paid sites for serious relationships. PlentyOfFish is strong in Canada, US, Australia and the UK, the same markets where eHarmony is also strong. eHarmony has been showing ads on PlentyOfFish. The 2010 revenue of PlentyOfFish isUSD ~30 million, Match/Chemistry is over USD 340 million and eHarmony revenue is estimated at over USD 250 million. FULL ARTICLE @ ONLINE DATING SOUND BARRIER

Mark Brooks: eHarmony has been advertising on POF for a while now. The question is, will they continue? These bedfellows probably just fell out of bed. (Full Disclosure: Plentyoffish is a prior client of Courtland Brooks).

Evow logo THE PARADIGM SHIFT – Sep 11 - With 130M monthly visitors, Plentyoffish is now the worlds largest dating site. No matter how big Plentyoffish is, lots of users still use paid dating sites and they spend over $500M a year on them. eVow is a new dating site for people who are looking for long term relationships. Unlike eHarmony, eVow allows users to search for matches. eVow.com launched last week and has now over 100,000 signups. Now Markus has to figure out how many users he needs before he turns it into a paid dating site.
