Elon Musk Wants to ‘Authenticate All Real Humans’ on Twitter

Posted on April 29, 2022

Twitter blue tickCNN – Elon Musk’s Twitter feed states that he will “authenticate all real humans.” Musk could seek to require real names on accounts or require photo id, or integration with 3rd-party services where users are already known. His pet peeve is spam accounts.

Facebook made changes to its names policy in 2015 after critics pointed out that abuse victims and other vulnerable groups had good reasons to use pseudonyms. Users can provide reasons to the company why they avoid using their real names.

Mark Brooks: Behavior changes considerably when people are anonymous. Dating platforms really need to know and assure that real humans are behind each profile, and are ‘good actors.’ No small task, but at least the ability to check liveness and verify someone is the same person as in their photo is easy with FaceTec. We also have the purpose-built RealMe which provides the ability to verify someone is real, and the state of their reputation and priors. (Full Disclosure: FaceTec and RealMe are clients of Courtland Brooks)

Tinder Tests Profile Verification With ‘Liveness’ Facial Recognition

Posted on April 11, 2022

Tinder logo in mazeGRATISDATINGTIPS – Tinder has started testing a new form of profile verification using a video called "Selfie Verification." The feature is rolling out in selected test markets. To verify that users are who they say they are, Tinder introduced photo verification in 2020. This feature allows users to authenticate themselves through a series of real-time posed selfies (photos), which are compared to existing profile photos using human-assisted AI technology. The video verification is done with technology from FaceTec, a company that specializes in facial authentication, according to code from the Tinder (Android) app. Although the partnership has not yet been officially announced, FaceTec itself confirms that Tinder uses the technology on its website. The advantage of FaceTec technology over current photo verification is that it is not based on 2D photos but on 3D images. The technology also tests whether the user is physically present by matching them with their photo ID or 3D FaceMap created from the profile photos. FaceTec's AI would also be able to create a 3D age estimate for each verified user, allowing potential minors to be flagged by the app. The code in the Tinder app also reveals that Tinder will offer the possibility to scan a passport – both with the camera and with NFC.

FaceTec Files Suit Against UK Firm for Alleged IP Theft and Patent Infringement

Posted on January 5, 2022

FaceTec logoPR WEB – FaceTec, the global leader in 3D biometric face liveness detection, has filed a lawsuit against iProov for alleged patent infringement, breach of contract, and intentional interference with contractual relations. The Meet Group Launches Face Verification

Posted on September 22, 2020

Meetme verified profileBUSINESSWIRE – Sep 21 – The Meet Group rolls out AI-powered face verification using FaceTec's 3D selfie technology, a human liveness check. Verification badges roll out to MeetMe member profiles this week, then Skout and Tagged within months. FaceTec's AI software confirms the user is physically present in front of the camera. As badge adoption increases, it will become a prerequisite for certain activities like sending photos in chat. Additionally, FaceTec's AI provides a 3D age estimation.

"At the beginning of this year, I set forth our commitment to safer dating in 2020, addressing key issues affecting dating apps everywhere: Authenticity, Age Estimation, Device Blocking, and Textual Screening," said Geoff Cook, CEO of The Meet Group. "With the launch of the Profile Verification Badge on MeetMe, we are…helping to ensure authenticity and end catfishing."

Other initiatives include using URSafe so members can stay connected in an emergency, collaborating with Microsoft on Project Artemis which uses common textual patterns and an age detection engine to prevent child exploitation, the introduction of a Safer Dating Advisory Board of epidemiologists and infectious disease experts to provide advice aimed at reducing the risk of contagion while dating, and implementing DeviceCheck to block bad actors' devices. See TMG's safety overview.

Safer Dating With 3D Face Verification

Posted on February 14, 2020

The meet group facetecMEDIUM.COM – Feb 14 – While many dating apps have developed solutions intended to address verification, those solutions have certain limitations. They often rely on the user to take a selfie in a certain pose or hold a piece of paper containing a specific code. Checking these images manually is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and not exactly foolproof. The Meet Group has begun leveraging technology from FaceTec to build a better solution of verification. FaceTec builds authentication software that compares a live 3D person to their 2D photos. Users who prove their liveness and match their uploaded profile photos will get a badge displayed on their profiles throughout the app. The Meet Group plans to launch this new verification in Q2 2020.
