Dating App Hily Rejects AI Trend

Posted on June 3, 2026
Hily HI

MASHABLE – Hily is pushing back against the dating industry’s AI trend by promoting “Human Intelligence” (HI) instead. The move comes as apps like Bumble and Tinder invest more heavily in AI features. According to Hily’s August 2025 survey, 69% of Gen Z and 74% of millennials believe AI makes dating less authentic. More than half said they would be less attracted to someone if they thought AI had been used to create their profile. Despite this, many daters still use AI to write bios or suggest conversation starters. Hily says it will use technology where useful, but does not want AI to replace the human side of dating.

Hily survey

NEWSWEEK – A survey by Hily found that pets are increasingly becoming relationship deal-breakers. Among pet owners, 82% said they would choose their pet over a relationship if forced to decide, while 75% said they would end a relationship rather than give up a pet because of a partner’s allergies. Pets also influence dating before a first date takes place. A cute pet photo makes a profile more attractive to 65% of Gen Z and 55% of millennials.

Gen Z Dating Expectations Don’t Match Reality, Hily Report Finds

Posted on February 16, 2026
Hily T.R.U.T.H. report

EINPRESSWIRE – Based on a survey of 3K U.S. Gen Z users, Hily’s Dating T.R.U.T.H. Report shows a gap between perception and reality in dating: social media and peer pressure make young people think others date often and successfully, while many actually had no dates in 2025. This comparison leads to dissatisfaction with partners, lower confidence, and widespread dating fatigue. In response, Gen Z is moving toward more authentic behavior – greater openness to meeting in person, reading profiles more carefully, and reducing social media use – with many believing dating was better about ten years ago.

Gen Z and Millennials Feel “Ick” Toward AI in Dating Despite Using It Themselves

Posted on November 10, 2025
AI dating assistant

FAST COMPANY – AI is increasingly shaping modern dating, with a Hily app survey showing 82% of Gen Z and 87% of millennials already use AI to help with bios or conversations and up to 95% plan to continue. Yet most say they’d be turned off if their match did the same, seeing it as lazy or inauthentic. The trend, dubbed “chatfishing,” reflects burnout from swiping and ghosting, as daters outsource messages to tools like ChatGPT. However, this often backfires: over half of users feel less confident meeting in person after relying on AI. Experts warn that while AI can boost confidence online, it risks erasing the quirks and personality traits that make people truly attractive.
