OPW – July 1 – Project 0d8 is an IDEA (Internet Dating Excellence Association) project. We're opening up access to a team of amazing top tier professors in the fields of Behavioral Science and Evolutionary Psychology to help you improve your game. Please see 0d8.com for more information. They want the ability to run surveys, do randomized control tests and look at aggregate data to test hypotheses that can help you improve your dating apps and understand user behavior more profoundly. IDEA Has A New Name, And More Purpose
OPW – Jan 16 – For the last ten years I've run mixers at iDate events for small groups of the most senior owners, CXOs and leaders of dating and matchmaking apps and services. It's been fun, and has helped people open up new relationships in the industry. Now its time to do more. Yesterday we changed the name of Internet Dating Executive Alliance to Internet Dating Excellence Association. It's a small name change, but a big change of scope. In short, we want to do more to help the iDating industry learn and share and grow. I'll explain more at the Internet Dating Conference next week, and then follow up on Online Personals Watch on Feb 1st.
If you're not part of the communities yet, you can apply here and join the Facebook Group at www.IDEA.gp, or Linkedin Group at www.IDEA.gd.

No Recession On Love
PR WEB — Feb 19 — When members of the Internet Dating Executive Alliance (IDEA) met last month at the Miami Internet Dating Conference, the economy was a popular topic of discussion. Hitwise reports that the Internet dating industry gained 12% more site visits in 2008 over 2007. The peak period for Internet dating sites is Nov through Valentine's Day each year. Hitwise reports that the top 100 dating sites gained 2% more site visits for the three month period of Nov '07 to Jan '08 vs. Nov '08 to Jan '09. Free dating sites gained 55% more visits in the same period.

Blind Date With Recession
FINANCIAL TIMES — Feb 12 — While the build-up to Feb 14 may be a busy time for the on line dating industry, the "crunch time" this year, says Mark Brooks, president of the Internet Dating Executive Alliance, will be when the red roses have wilted. "It's then, when subscriptions typically tail off, that we'll see if the industry will be able to withstand the recession.
Ross Williams, CEO of Global Personals, believes members will not cut back. "You get what you pay for," says Mr Williams. "Users don't want a free-for-all. They want to know that their potential dates are serious about relationships."
