BLOOMBERG LAW – A federal district court correctly invalidated two patents asserted against the maker of mobile gaming and dating app Kippo, the Federal Circuit ruled, agreeing that the patents covered abstract subject matter that's ineligible for protection. Trinity Info Media's US Patent Nos. 9,087,321 and 10,936,685 cover online polling technology that matches a user with other users based on their responses to questions. It accused app developer Covalentof infringing those patents in a Central District of California lawsuit, which was dismissed because the claimed inventions covered abstract processes.

Kippo has grown to 180K monthly active users. ~30% of Kippo users utilize the app for meeting friends, and 70% are there specifically for dating/finding a partner. DOT.LA – Kippo, a startup that makes a dating app for gamers was created by an ex-Wall Street trader and Raya engineer whose codes helped predict the success of stocks. But David Park said Kippo doesn't believe in algorithms. The dating app for gamers lets users sign up to create profiles where they can highlight their favorite games, astrology signs and their type of personality. Matched users can chat and play games with each other. Although it's free, there's a $9.99 premium version. Park, an avid gamer, said he thought gaming and dating were a perfect match. Gamers already loved to interact online. They don't want to play alone. Gaming with someone takes the pressure off of dating. It's a shared experience. Last year, Kippo raised a $2M seed funding. It's using the cash to revamp the app. with the emphasis on 'experience'.

One way Kippo is setting itself apart from other apps is a unique "card" system. In the cards, users can list their top ten games, their Myers-Briggs Personality profile, and a multitude of other interests that can get them the most like-minded matches.

VENTURE BEAT – May 28 – Kippo has raised $2M for a dating app for gamers who want to find like-minded companions. Primer Sazze Partners led the round, with participation from Tinder executives and partners at Eaton Workshop, NextGen Venture, and IHeartComix. The capital will primarily be used to expand the interactive features on the app. The name for the company comes from a Korean word, and it's a twist on "happiness". The grand vision is to create a platform for everybody, a platform that is a gamified experience for people to meet new people". Gamers identify what games they like and include a lot of photos in their profiles. They also connect using in-game names, rather than phone numbers. 93% of Kippo users go on a virtual date and play video games together before meeting in-person. The company was founded in 2019 by David Park, Cheeyoon Lee, and Sean Suyeda.

Gamer Dating App Kippo Kicking up Usage During COVID-19
FORBES – Apr 17 – Kippo is a dating app dedicated to online players. Kippo moves away from the world of formal profiles and left/right swiping. Instead, users are invited to play with or against each other before eventually exchanging information if they wish. The Coronavirus lockdown and general social distancing account for a big boost in usage for Kippo. The app's reps state that online gaming jumped 75% in general since the start of pandemic quarantine procedures. The vast majority of Kippo users are millennials or Generation Z. Regardless of such demographics, overall Kippo usage increased by 275% during the previous 30 days. That activity accounts for a 50% revenue growth over that period amidst ~25K active users.
