BlueCity Q1 Results 2021: Revenue up 31%

Bluecity logo 2021GLOBE NEWSWIRE – June 10 – BlueCity's Q1 revenues reached RMB271.1M ($41.4M), up 30.7% YOY. Net loss was RMB52.1M ($7.9M), compared with net loss of RMB7.6M in Q1 2020. Monthly active users of BlueCity's portfolio apps reached 8.3M, up 37.5% YOY. Total paying users reached 640K, up 47.8% YOY. Revenues from live streaming services reached RMB219.9M ($33.6M), up 22.4% YOY. Revenues from membership services reached RMB26.4M ($4M), up 75.9% YOY. Revenues from advertising services reached RMB12M ($1.8M), from merchandise sales of "He Health" RMB11.4M ($1.7M). BlueCity's portfolio apps include Blued, LESDO and Finka.

BlueCity’s LESDO Debuts Customizable User Recommendations and New “Catch” Feature

This rollout includes a customizable User Recommendation System, which allows users to either prioritize distance or how active other users are to optimize match results. In addition, LESDO is debuting the "Catch" feature, a new way of making contacts. If a user wants to "catch" someone, they will answer a question chosen by the user they are interested in. After sending the answer, the user being "caught" will receive a notification that someone is trying to "catch" their attention and can see the other user's answer. From there, the conversation can progress.

Parent Company of Blued Buys Lesbian Platform

Lesdo iconREUTERS – Aug 26 – BlueCity, the owner of China's biggest gay men dating app Blued, has bought a Chinese lesbian dating app LESDO, marking the first ever deal within the country's LGBT market. Launched in 2014, LESDO is an app for lesbians. It is believed to be the second most popular lesbian social app in China after Rela. BlueCity raised $84.8M in a Nasdaq IPO in July that valued it at $614M.

  • Blued – launched in 2012 and has since pocketed six rounds of financing; 27M registered users, 20% overseas; covers ~190 countries, and is available in 11 languages. Blued has made profits thanks to the thriving live streaming feature and its mobile marketing business.
  • Lesdo – launched in 2012, the largest lesbian dating app in China, 1.5M users, founded by a team of gay women. In 2014, the app got angel funding from GSR Ventures, and the next year landed millions of US dollars of pre-A financing led by IVP, SOSVentures, and Linear.
  • Aloha – a social networking app designed for gay men. Users swipe left for "nope" and right for "aloha" to get matched with other nearby men.
  • LesPark – the major rival of Lesdo. It is a dating app catering to gay women. The app is known for its live streaming feature and has millions of registered users.
  • the L – rolled out in Dec 2012, one of the major lesbian location-based dating apps in China.
