Match CEO Shuns Casual Dating on the App

Posted on June 8, 2021

Matchcom logo blue 2019YAHOO FINANCE – June 4 – Dating apps will now offer COVID-19 vaccination badges. Match and Match Affinity CEO Hesam Hosseini joins Yahoo Finance Live to discuss.

Q: Can you disclose at this current moment what percentage of folks have actually chosen to have the badge? Are there any negative commentary saying we don't appreciate this new feature?
A: The feature is launching actually in a week. It's really about our members choosing to disclose that.

Q: What have you seen to back up the idea that people really want to get out there and start using dating apps, not just to meet but actually get out on dates?
A: We're seeing two parallel trends. So for some, the pandemic was a moment of reflection. And as they're getting back out and starting to date, they're really looking for something meaningful. For others, it was a year with, frankly, a lack of intimacy, and they're looking for something more fun and just more casual dating this summer. And when we saw those trends, our reaction at Match was, if you're looking for something casual, that's totally cool. Just don't come to Match. Match is built for meaningful relationships.

Q: When you look across all of your brands, which platform do you see getting the biggest bump?
A: Our non-Tinder brands, including Match, combined saw 30% growth YOY.

MatchActivity Becomes Wannago.com

Posted on June 29, 2007

Wannago_logo SOCAL TECH — June 28 — L.A. based online dating site MatchActivity has become wannago.com, and is now focusing on creating a social networking site focused on sharing activities and events. The angel funded startup, which raised a small round in January and is still fundraising, is planning to relaunch its site towards the end of July.

The full article was originally published at SocalTech, but is no longer available.

Mark Brooks: Match killed Matchlive.com a couple of years ago. On the positive side, PreDating was acquired by Cupid and Hurrydate was just acquired by Spark. Some day dating sites will take more interest in events.

MatchActivity Launches

Posted on July 10, 2006
JAVA SCRIPT SEARCH — July 10 — MatchActivity lets singles plan activites together. First, setting the time and place of an event, and then finding people with similar interests. Post an Activity, Respond, Meet.  MatchActivity team defines their mission: "Our vision is to change how people meet online and date offline. We believe that an activity date provides the best structure and context for a first time meeting." FULL ARTICLE @ JAVA SCRIPT SEARCH

Mark Brooks: Observe the real world, bottle it, improve on it slightly. That's what I observe Jonathan Abrams do masterfully in 2003 with the creation of Friendster. You can't change people's behaviors, just give them a means to improve on what they are already doing. I've been working on ace-club since 1998. Singles, real world events…very tough. I hitched Cupid.com up with Predating.com in 2004. The marriage is working nicely. We weren't trying to change people. There's a need for more singles events.  Singles, online daters, need to occasionally pry themselves away from the computer and go and meet 20 new people in one night. Even if they don't meet a new partner, they're having a good time and doing something that's good for the soul. Meeting, partying.
