AKTIEN CHECK – Aug 11 – German online dating site Neu.de conducted a study of 2,017 singles aged 18 to 64 years and found mobile dating has changed the dating behavior of singles. The June 2014 study found that one third of Neu.de users now access the site via mobile devices; mobile dating is perceived as non-binding, with only 40% of singles looking for long-term relationships; one fifth of all singles are using their mobile devices to flirt while at work; and singles are growing impatient, with 96 % expecting a response from potential dates within 24 hours, and more than one third wanting a reply within an hour.

Match.com Acquires FriendScout24
WUV.DE – July 17 – Match.com, which operates in Germany under Neu.de, has bought FriendScout24 from Scout24 Holding. The investment firm Hellman & Friedman, which is the majority owner of Scout24, wants to focus primarily on their real estate brand ImmoScout24. In November last year, Hellman & Friedman took over 70% of the shares of Scout24 Holding from Deutsche Telekom for 1.5B Eur.

SPIN Kodex Certifies Safe Dating Sites
W&V – Feb 10 – The Federal Association of the Digital Economy (BVDW) has agreed on rules for dating sites. The "SPIN Kodex" defines clear rules related to cancellations policy, recurring payments and privacy issues. The first companies that have been certified are FriendScout24, Neu.de, eDarling.de, Shopaman.de, secret.de and partner.de. Companies wishing to submit to the SPIN Kodex have to go through an extensive auditing with numerous documentation requirements. This process has to be completed again in two years.

Meetic allocated ~15m Euros exceptional ad expenditure in 2008, mainly for offline branding to increase the profile DatingDirect, Neu.de and the matchmaking service MeeticAffinity. The Group is confident that it will gain a significant share of the European matchmaking market in 2009 and generate EBITDA margin of 20% to 25%. In '08 the Group disposed of its Chinese operations (eFriendsNet, Yeeyoo). Investments in Latin America, which are currently marginal, will be maintained.

Meetic Plans To Double Earnings
BLOOMBERG — May 14 — Meetic, Europe's biggest Internet dating service, plans to double earnings in four years by charging more of its Web-site users and expanding in Germany and the U.K. Meetic, which bought DatingDirect in the U.K. and Neu.de in Germany in the past two years, may make "smaller, targeted'' purchases in Nordic countries such as Sweden or Denmark. Meetic's earnings jumped 52% to 26.5m euros ($41m) in 2007. Meetic is adding two new Web sites, one catering to women, one to young people.
