Support for Same-Sex Marriage Declines After Years of Growth

Posted on June 16, 2026
Support for Same-Sex Marriage Declines After Years of Growth

NEWSWEEK – Support for same-sex marriage in the U.S. has fallen to 65%, down from 71% in 2022 and 2023, according to a new Gallup survey of 1K adults conducted in May 2026. Support remains strongest among Democrats (87%) and independents (67%), while Republican support has fallen to 37%. The survey also found that 62% of Americans consider same-sex relationships morally acceptable, the lowest level since 2016. Commenting on the findings, Three Day Rule CEO Adam Cohen-Aslatei suggested the shift may reflect the current political climate and changing public expression of views rather than a fundamental change in private beliefs.

Hinge CEO Jackie Jantos on Dating and AI Replacing Human Connection

Posted on March 27, 2026
Hinge Jackie Jantos

NEWSWEEK –  Jackie Jantos says AI is increasingly replacing small, vulnerable conversations that build real relationships, as young people use tools like ChatGPT instead of turning to friends. She points to declining in-person interaction among Gen Z and argues that technology removes the “messiness” needed for intimacy. While AI can mimic empathy and conversation, it lacks real reciprocity and shared experience. At Hinge, Jantos is focusing on intentional friction, real-world connection, and product design that pushes users toward actual relationships rather than more time on the app.

Video Dating Leads to Rise in Video Hookups With Strangers

Posted on December 1, 2020

Video dating1NEWSWEEK – Dec 1 – A new survey about sex and dating during the pandemic has revealed that people were interested in doing virtual dates after things go back to normal. The study was conducted in October 2020 by Basic Hard Seltzer who asked 2K unmarried millennials (average age 29) and Gen-Zers about their dating lives. Almost half of the folks who participated in the survey said that they have continued dating in-person since the pandemic started. Only 22% were focused on virtual dates alone, and 33% were doing both. According to the survey, of those who tried dating via video chat, 72% felt they got a good sense of chemistry online, and 63% of people would keep up virtual dating in a post-pandemic world.

How COVID-19 Is Affecting Dating Apps for Singles

Posted on March 19, 2020

Love in the time of coronavirusNEWSWEEK – Mar 18 – With more and more people practicing social distancing, it's unclear how exactly single people are supposed to date as concerns over COVID-19 become increasingly severe. These are the approaches that dating apps and services are taking. In a statement, Hinge wrote that users' safety was most important. On its website, it provided important tips from WHO, including social distancing, washing hands, avoiding face touching and staying up to date. Tinder is sharing a similar message with a new card that appears for swipers, adding that people should carry hand sanitizer and maintain distance during social events. The ethically-non-monogamous-focused dating app #Open is advising users in a message to not meet new partners in person and to instead make use of video and phone calls. Now is not the time to be making new connections," said #Open co-founder David Epstein.

FBI Warns Online Daters: Don’t Be OKStupid

Posted on February 15, 2016

ScammerNEWSWEEK – Feb 13 – The FBI is using Valentine's Day as an opportunity to remind all online daters that criminals are lurking on dating sites by releasing a press release. Online Dating: A Less Stupid Cupid

Posted on November 25, 2014

Dating11NEWSWEEK – Nov 22 – Dating sites today are just marketplaces. Over the years, many have used algorithms to predict matches, but none have improved the odds much. OkCupid co-founder Christian Rudder, is skeptical about algorithmic attraction. “One person doesn’t kick out enough data,” he said. “Someone will look great on paper and then have an annoying laugh.” Researchers are inventing a new generation of computers based on the way human brains work. Instead of processing data through algorithms, these machines can watch data streaming past and see patterns. Numenta watches activity for Amazon Web Services and looks for patterns that can give early warning about a hacker attack. “Our systems are like brains at birth,” says Numenta founder Jeff Hawkins. “They just learn from the stream. You don’t have to tell them anything.” Another step will be to apply machine vision to analyze Tinder-style swipes. Tinder doesn’t learn anything from users' swipes—it doesn’t come to understand what physical features they like. But with advances in machine vision, it could.
