Match.com Launches New iPhone App
TECH CRUNCH – Apr 24 - Match.com is unveiling an entirely redesigned mobile app for iPhone users, with the release of Match 3.0. Match.com has implemented a few new features that are built specifically for mobile such as Discover page. There are two parts to the Discover page: Stream and Mixer. Stream is a list of people users might be interested in. The Mixer experience is very similar to Tinder. Users swipe right if they like someone, and swipe left if they don’t.
Zoosk Files For $100M IPO
TECH CRUNCH – Apr 17 – Zoosk just filed its S-1 registration statement with the SEC, announcing its plans to raise $100M in an IPO. Zoosk posted a net loss of $2.6M in 2013 on revenues of $178M. As part of the filing, Zoosk provided details of its global business, which includes 26M members worldwide and 650K paying subscribers across 80 countries. That’s up from the 18M registered members and 483K paying subscribers a year earlier. Zoosk had raised $60M since 2007.

Users State Sexual Intentions With HeavenlySinful Dating App
TECH CRUNCH – Apr 14 – HeavenlySinful is like Tinder but it asks users to state what they’re after each time they open up the app. Their intentions, either Heavenly or Sinful, are then put on a mood map for people nearby to see who in their neighborhood is feeling frisky or looking for something legit. Right now, the company can generate revenue of in-app purchases for stickers and such, but eventually the team is considering implementing a system that lets someone pay to talk to another user if they didn’t get a match.
US Internet Ad Revenue Overtaking Broadcast TV
TECH CRUNCH – Apr 10 – Online ad revenue in the US grew to $42.8B in 2013, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s Report. That’s up 17% from 2012, and it means that for the first time, the total is higher than broadcast TV, which was at $40B. Mobile advertising grew to $7.1B, up 110 %.

TECH CRUNCH – Apr 2 – A number of Tinder users report being matched with fake profiles of women, who are actually automated bots promoting a mobile game called “Castle Clash.” It’s unclear who is behind these fake accounts, though of course the app developer, IGG.com, is immediately suspect.
Tinder Has Made 1 Billion Matches
TECH CRUNCH – Mar 14 - Tinder is announcing that it has made 1B matches between its users. The company isn’t disclosing how many registered or active users it has.
Dattch, Lesbian Dating App, Launches In SF
TECH CRUNCH – Mar 1 – Aimed exclusively at lesbians, bisexual and/or bi-curious women, the Dattch dating app is now launching in SF. The app emphasises photos, and thus draws comparisons with Pinterest in user interface. Dattch does not emphasise proximity-based social networking. It incorporates Facebook Connect and makes a point of weeding out fake profiles created by straight men. Dattch targeted London and other UK cities initially. Australia is also on its roadmap. The mostly female team has closed a $160K Angel round.
Tinder Is Serious About Expanding Beyond Dating
TECH CRUNCH – Feb 12 – Right now, Tinder‘s focus is on international growth. The app has added 1M new users in the UK in the past two months, with solid growth in Brazil as well. Tinder has also seen more diversity in terms of age. Early on, ~90% of Tinder’s user base was 18-24, but today that age bracket makes up ~50% of the app’s users. CEO Sean Rad believes Tinder could be used for more than just dating. It could be used to set up a job interview in the future.
