SMH.COM – Aug 9 – The RSVP Date of the Nation report, published this week, has found that just 41% of singles would like to get married. 67% of Gen Y respondents want to get married, compared to 39% of Gen Xers and 12% of Baby Booomers. Gen Y (born between 1980 and 2000), Gen X (1960 to 1980). Relationship and sex expert Jacqueline Hellyer believes the institution of marriage is "good and strong" but that "it is the Baby Boomers who have lost their naivety." Divorce has put many off approaching the aisle again.

Aussies Looking For Long Term Love This Winter
NINETOFIVE – May 15 – According to RSVP.com.au’s Date of the Nation Report 2012, 64% of adult singles are looking for long-term relationships. Online dating is furthering its popularity with over half of Aussie women (52%) and less than half of men (45%) trying it out. However, Australians are not a mob of depressed singles, with 62% of adults content with their singledom. Generation Y is the most likely group to enjoy being single (72%), followed by Baby Boomers and older (68%), and then Generation X (59%).

The Coffee Club Set For Speed Dating World Record Challenge
FRANCHISE.NET.AU – The Coffee Club and dating site RSVP are combining forces to try and break a world record for speed dating. A free event on 1 May is expected to draw ~2K people to take part at ~50 cafes across Australia. The aim is to beat the current world record of 1,240 speed-daters set in Sydney in 2008.

They had ~1.8M members and ~8000 marriages and 900 babies from people who had met on the site. Speed dating is also taking off. Justin Parfitt, owner of Fast Impressions, started his company in 2002. Events include nights for people who like literature, travel and trivia, particular religions and can also cater to same sex relationships and even psychical preferences — such as tall men, slender women and nationalities.

DIGITAL MEDIA – July 9 – Online dating site Oasis Active, managed by 3H group, has overtaken Fairfax’s RSVP as the number one dating site in Australia, according to the latest figures from Hitwise. The shift seems to reflect a general move by consumers away from pay-to-play providers to those supported by advertising alone.

10 Pct Of Oz Men Meet Spouse Online
TIMES OF INDIA – June 30 – The survey, carried out by Nielsen for the Australian online dating site RSVP, found that one in four Australians have used online dating. More than half the people who have used a dating site (63%) ended up dating someone they met online, and a third of those (34%) had a short-term relationship, with 16% having a long-term one.

to join the online dating craze, but experts have urged them to
exercise caution when meeting people over the internet. Oasis Active,
especially popular among young Australian teens, has overtaken the
Fairfax-owned RSVP to become #1 site in the country, according to
comScore and Hitwise. Oasis Active launched in April 2008, has ~1.6M
members worldwide including ~800,000 in Australia. Up to 70% of
Australian users are aged from 18 to 35 – a younger demographic than
most dating sites, with 40% of that subgroup female. And while the site
has a policy of only accepting members 18 or older, The Sunday

One In Four Adults Have Used Internet To Find A Mate
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD – Apr 17 – A Nielsen poll found one in four adults have used the internet to find a partner and another 38% are considering using online dating. Of those who had used online dating, 33.6% reported a short-term relationship, 16.2% said they had a long-term relationship, 8.9% said they had married or were in a defacto relationship, and 2.7% had children. RSVP.com.au (owned by Fairfax Media, the publisher of the Herald) commissioned Nielsen to conduct the first comprehensive survey of online dating habits.
