Lunchactually violet lim 2018CNN MONEY – Jan 17 – Singapore native Violet Lim is the founder of Lunch Actually, a personalized service that matches customers with a lunch date. Fourteen years later, she says her company has created ~3K successful pairings. It now operates in six Asian cities with a total of 1.4M users. Last year, the company unveiled plans for Viola.AI, an app that uses A.I. to help singletons find their match and blockchain technology to verify people's identity. It hopes to launch the service globally this year. The group has also acquired a number of other businesses – dating app Love Out Loud Asia and Thai dating company MeetNLunch and Indonesia-based online dating platform Setipe. In 2016, Lunch Actually set up a joint venture with Japanese internet dating company Diverse Co to launch a premium dating service in Japan.

Asian dating apps staffWSJ – Apr 20 – For Singapore-based Paktor, Indonesia accounts for half its 1M active monthly users. Paktor, a Tinder-like app, is spread across Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan and Indonesia, and it is doubling its numbers each quarter. Local online dating apps such as Yogrt and Wavoo, as well as mix-matching website Setipe.com, are also seeing a windfall in Indonesia. Cultural stigmas about casual dating still pose challenges, said Razi Thalib, co-founder of Setipe, which currently has ~300K members. Setipe is matching users for long term relationships. Yogrt app includes a game that users can play with their matches, while Wavoo has an augmented reality feature that allows users to see other nearby users from a map of their neighborhood.
