The site offers three types of memberships: basic, community and community+. The basic membership is free, the community membership costs $60 per year and the community+ type, which allows additional profile browsing, starts at $15 per month. Currently, the app has 1K members. "Lonely people over the age of 60 can see the same health effects as smoking 15 cigarettes a day," said Andrew Dowling, the founder and CEO of Stitch.

Loneliness is a serious medical problem for many older adults; research links it to declines in physical and mental health as well as premature death. Stitch asks all its members to go through a verification process to ensure they are over 50. Stitch signed up 5k members in its first year and now has 100k members around the world, with the biggest hubs being London, New York and Sydney.
