Twine Canvas Is Like Tinder But Based On Personality

Posted on February 3, 2014

Twine canvas screenshotTECH CRUNCH – Feb 1 – Mobile app developer Sourcebits has released a new dating app, Twine Canvas. The app asks users to browse and create “personality canvases,” which is a digital collage of their interests. If both sides of the connection “like” each others canvases, then profile photos are revealed. To create a canvas, users must add photos that don’t show their faces, from the camera roll or Facebook albums.

How Twine Stands Out

Posted on October 16, 2013

Twine appTHE STAR – Oct 16 – Twine initially hides member identities and appearances, according to Mark Brooks, an Internet-dating industry analyst and consultant. "It vows to keep an even ratio of men to women, which solves a criticism of digital dating that women get inundated by guys and guys are often ignored,” Brooks says. “Twine hit on two major elements: the privacy issue, and the ignoring/inundation element.”

In 2011, for the first time, users spent more time on dating apps than on dating sites, according to IBISWorld. “This app world we live in now is not going to be around forever," says Marc Lesnick, iDate organizer. "Users complain about the limited features, along with advertisers who don’t like the size of their ads."

Etan Berkowitz, co-founder of Twine, vows Twine “will always be advertising-free. Perhaps we’d monetize, but it’s not on the table now.”

Twine: A Dating Site With No Faces

Posted on October 7, 2013

Twine appTHE DAILY BEAST – Oct 6 – Twine is pairing users up on a “personality first and looks later” basis. First, matches are made through interests listed on Facebook. While chatting, users see only a blurred-out photo of their match, which doesn’t become clear until they both agree to reveal themselves. Since the release in August, the app has seen ~120K downloads. At the moment, getting men on board is a hurdle for Twine. The women/men ratio is 16:1.

New Dating App Twine Looks To Dig Deeper

Posted on September 2, 2013

Twine screenshotMERCURY NEWS – Sep 1 – Twine launched on July 31st and wants its users to connect based on common interest instead of relying on looks. Twine stands out by initially hiding members' identities and appearances, according to Mark Brooks, an iDating industry analyst and consultant. It vows to keep an even ratio of men to women in each city, which solves a criticism of digital dating that women get "inundated by guys and guys are often ignored," Brooks said. In 2011, for the first time, singles spent more time on dating apps than on dating websites, according to IBISWorld. "This app world we live in now is not going to be around forever," said Marc Lesnick, who organizes the annual iDate conference. Users continue to complain about the limited features available on their smaller smartphone screens, along with advertisers who don't like the size of their ads, Lesnick said.
