Users Claim Twoo Is Spamming Their Friends

Posted on August 13, 2012

Twoo logoTECH CRUNCH – Aug 3 – Users are complaining that Twoo, a social networking service, is sending unwanted messages to their contacts. Co-founder and CEO Lorenz Bogaert counters that this is a misunderstanding and the company is working to fix it. The app auto-selects all of the user’s friends with no unselect all button, meaning the user must manually unselect every friend. While the “connect” button fairly obviously pings all of the user’s contacts, the “next” button will also send messages to all of the user’s friends. At the very best, the site is unnecessarily confusing. At the worst, it is purposefully complex in order to message unsuspecting users’ contacts to increase its membership.

Mark Brooks: Twoo have stiff competition with Badoo, also out of the UK. Badoo has been accused of being spammy in the past as well. These People Discovery services have both pushed the fringe of what's allowable and tolerable, and good practice.  (Full Disclosure: Courtland Brooks has advised Twoo in the past)

For The Best ROI, Try A Niche Dating Site

Posted on February 14, 2012

Online dating - couple with laptopsDAILY FINANCE – Feb 14 – Niche dating sites, a rapidly growing segment of the online matchmaking industry, are one way to go. Niche sites accounted for 23% of the online dating market in 2008, says Eric Resnick, director of strategy for Courtland Brooks, a marketing and consultancy firm to the online dating industry, and the owner of ProfileHelper.com, which helps people write online dating profiles. And they're up to 29% now, he says, quoting figures from Experian Hitwise. Dating experts say niche sites can better help daters zero in on what they are looking for. MarryMeAlready.com is geared toward folks in search of a permanent partner; OurTime.com (for people 50+); GreenSingles.com is for green-conscious people; Alikewise.com is for bookworms; and others. Then there sites such as Badoo or Twoo.com that are hybrid between an online dating site and a Facebookesque social network offers a free mobile app with new "interests" and "ice breaker" features.

Twoo.com: Brits Are Cheapskates On Dates

Posted on February 7, 2012

Twoo logoBUZZIBUZZ – Feb 7 – 39% of single Brits spent less than £100 on dating in 2011, new research from Twoo.com has revealed. This figure includes the cost of taking someone out on a date, buying new clothes for a date and any online dating subscriptions. The survey of 1,000 people was commissioned by Twoo.com and conducted by research company Toluna. The “big spenders,” or those who reported spending over £1K, live in Scotland (17%), East Midlands (14%) and London (9%). Surprisingly, women are thriftier than men when it comes to dating, with 52% stating they spent less than £100 in 2011, although men aren’t exactly pushing the boat out either, with 30% believing that £100 for the year is the right amount to spend.
