Over 50’s are Ab Fab As Singles

Posted on November 9, 2004

UK DAILY RECORD — Nov 9 — While many younger women are desperate to find the man of their dreams to settle down with, the rising divorce rate means a growing army of older women are free, single and young at heart. According to the Lloyds TSB 50 survey of 9100 people – 18% of single women 50+ regularly went to bars and nightclubs looking for romance. This compares with 41% of 30-somethings. And 39% of single women in their 30s say they’re not looking for a relationship, compared with 49% in their 50s.  While 22% of single women in their 30s have tried internet dating, only 12% of the over 50s have done so. Marriage in North America

Posted on October 25, 2004

LONDON FREE PRESS–Despite the 50% divorce rate in North America, Campbell believes marriage will remain popular. "The fact is the majority of people who get married, stay married for a long time. And some stay married forever." Marriage is directly linked to health and happiness. Preliminary research shows people who are married tend, overall, to be happier in life and have better health outcomes than those who have never wed. However, people who have never been married tend to be happier than those who have married and divorced. Campbell sees speed-dating, in particular, as an attractive alternative for those who have felt the sting of rejection. LONDON FREE PRESS

The second — used by dozens of companies, including Friendster, MySpace and Multiply — is to draw so many users that advertisers will pay to be on the Web site. SEATTLE TIMES
