OPW — Apr 5th — SITRACon, the convention for the Singles Industry Trade Association has been cancelled…just one week prior to the convention! Poor form. The last SITRACon pulled 75-100. iDate2005 pulled 350+. Looks like iDate is emerging as the favored gathering point for the industry. Mark Brooks

Actually, the email from Bob states it was postponed, at least as far as I know. Problem now is that there is nothing in the US until Jan 06? I wonder how many US co’s will make the trip across the pond.
Very often, conference companies try to save face by using the word ‘postponed.’ The reality is, when a conference is less than 10 days away from an event, the organizers had better go through with it, even if they will lose money running it. People have paid for airfare and hotel rooms. They also cleared their business schedules. Once an organizer ‘postpones’ (or CANCELS) a conference, the industry is unlikely to have faith in your abilities putting together another event. It is policy of the Internet Dating Conference never to cancel an officialy announced event.
As to the USA, there is another dating event on July 21-22 in San Francisco…. http://www.MobileDatingConference.com will focus on the Mobile Dating Industry.

I have missed prior SITRAS events mainly because of the fact that I wasn’t aware of them as I was aware of iDate. I attended the first iDate in January 2004 and again this year in January 2005. Both events yielded great contacts, but I must say that Marc Lesnick pulled off a great event this year. He gathered a great group of speakers and representatives from the industry. I look forward to seeing iDate and the industry it supports grow.
I hope that the next SITRACON does go off without a hitch as it would be good for the industry to have multiple strong conferences to attend.
