LEE SPRINGFIELD BUREAU — Dec 2 — A Southern Illinois Democrat is considering legislation requiring online dating services to perform criminal background checks to weed out predators that might be lurking on the Internet. State Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion, said he was surprised to learn that these services are not required to perform background checks on members. "One thing I was trying to come up with is a way to make sure you have a simple background check on somebody before you allow them to advertise," he said. "It seems to me that there should at least be a non-sex offender requirement to be on one of those dating sites." He is considering creating legislation to address this potential problem. Where does this end? I can’t believe that singles bars don’t do background checks. There could be hundreds of sexual predators just sitting at a bar right now and these bars haven’t taken the time to do a background check!
The bottom line is if you aren’t smart enough to take precautions to protect you from such a situation then you are probably better off meeting people somewhere other than a dating site.
Yeah- and I hear they’re going to start intelligence tests for state representatives and lose a bunch of people.
Yeah – this is getting old. I hear the Doc at True quit and he made some statements that all this testing wasn’t worth the paper it is printed on basicly. He said it is out dated and unreliable. So what is Trues gimmick now? True provided background checks that don’t work. I can get behind a real check being offered by dating business, but this demanding everone be checked is stupid. Doesn’t true offer free to women, so if there isn’t a credit card on them then they aren’t checking everyone. There are so many holes in that theory, who was the idiot that thought this up to began with? Why are our lawmakers wasting time and taxpayer’s money on this?
A quick clarification is needed about my statements concerning the True Compatibility Test. I am proud of that test – having been one in a team of psychologists to produce and publish it. I never said the test was unreliable; I said only that new software technologies and mathematics allow superior advances over testing applications that are currently used.
From this point of view I stated elsewhere that current compatibility tests are arguably outdated, and therefore, even better tests and test adminstrations can be built if companies are willingly to invest in the resources needed to bring these new applications to fruition.

For a company with a $36 million marketing budget they sure don’t have much to show for it.
No matter what happens this will only end up helping the free sites and social networking sites.
Jim,
So True’s test are outdated and they didn’t or won’t invest in the resources needed to maintian current up to date standards in testing.
Markus,
where did you get 36 million in marketing? What the hack did they spending it on? Looks like they should have use that money to keep Jim.

Let me clarify a bit further by saying this — more precise and efficient compatibility tests can be built now versus when the True Compatibility Test was originally constructed, because new testing applications have since been perfected and made feasible. This is why I have said recently that this test, and others, are immediately “outdated.”
I don’t know what True is or isn’t doing to maintain their test products; that’s no longer my responsibility.
