CHINA DAILY — June 26 — iResearch valued the Chinese online dating market at 37 million yuan (US$4.5 million) for 2004 and 91 million yuan (US$11.2 million) for 2005, and predicts it will grow to 653 million yuan (US$80.5 million) in 2008. 117 boys are being born in China for every 100 girls, far beyond the normal ratio of 104-107 to 100. For Marc Lesnick (of idate2006.com), the statistic means Chinese Internet dating will grow even more. One of the delegates most captivated by the two-day conference was Mark Brooks, a US-based online dating industry analyst and editor of Onlinepersonalswatch.com. "I know the American market very well, and the European market somewhat, but the Asian market was a mystery to me," he said. "The US market is coming to a point of maturity now, whereas the situation in China now is how it was in the USA a few years ago. People are starting to trust it more, and seeing that it is a secure vehicle for finding the ideal match." FULL ARTICLE @ CHINA DAILY

Sure the China market is long time investment but how long we have to wait. The main problem here is money… china singles still can’t pay for the services and nobody knows when they will be ready to pay.. They are too poor at this moment.. the only market which can work well there at this moment is related services advertising market.
In what way are they unable to pay. Fiscally or feasibly?

Don’t know about feasility of payment process because I am not living in China. But it would be better to ask payment providers like 2co.com,worldpay, ccbill do they accept payments from China or not. In example only few of providers accept payments from Eastern Europe due the high risks… And it could be the same story on Chinese market… It’s better to ask someone from China to know this.
Fiscally they are probably able to pay but for some reasons chinese traffic is still not convertable on all markets. Why? Probably due the payment providers but I think that it is happens due the low internet expansion in country, people just don’t trust to online payments. But in general it would be interesting to know reason why it happens. Any other suggestions?
Aren’t cell phone payment systems bigger then credit cards in china?

But analyze also the Japanese market!!!!!
TIPS for Asian Market:
Japan and China:
They have a different “romantic model” from Western Cultures. It is not as easy as “dating site translation”, to make the “Chinese version” of a Western online dating site.

Western Cultures: secure romantic attachment prevalent.
East Asian cultures: preoccupied romantic attachment prevalent.
as for China:
Chinese Population will be severe unbalanced until next / for to 20 years. (until 2025)
There will be nearly 40 million men more than women!!!!
Many Chinese persons are “really single”, they do not have even a sister / brother / uncle / aunt / cousin / nephew !!!
