And they couldn’t be happier, especially in Boston, where record numbers of single people are finding that parties of one are worth toasting. More than ever before, men and women are living single well into their 30s, 40s, and beyond. As early as 2008, a majority of US households will be headed by an unmarried person – already so in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and 15 other states. People continue to marry later in life, and some are opting out altogether, posing Couplists a question of their own: "Why bother?" In 1970, only 7.8% of Americans 30-34 had never married. For those who wish to find prolonged relationships, dating sites will continue to improve their services and deliver results.
For those who do not, nothing will persuade them otherwise…until they are good and ready at least. People will take longer to be good and ready.
Mass media will drive the trend towards singledom. Single living is cool. (It’s also good for business, single people spend more).
